Best 6 Dog Friendly Markets in Brisbane


There's no doubt about it - markets are always better if your best friend is allowed to come along too. Unfortunately, due to health and safety regulations, your furbaby does not always have permission to attend. However, if you do a thorough search, there are a fair few that do welcome pooches, which is great news - Eddy and I have done all the hard work for you, and we've researched (and sniffed) out the best ones in the Brisbane region, compiled here in this article.

Note: This article reviews the following markets in no particular order, with a focus on stalls that cater specifically towards dogs.


Kelvin Grove Village Markets

Location: Blamey St, Kelvin Grove QLD 4059

Kelvin Grove Village Markets was developed by Peter Hackworth, Brisbane's first lady of markets, restaurants, cafes and bars. Having been in the business for over 50 years, since Peter was just 22, she is described as a "true entrepreneur and highly successful businesswoman" who to date boasts an impressive resume of iconic venues and events that are infused with a dose of eclectic-ness. Unlike Milton Markets, whose main focus is on food and other produce, Kevin Grove Village Markets is a great all rounder who has a little bit of everything - from arts and crafts to vintage clothing, from fresh fruit to gourmet food, you'll have a blast wondering through these markets. You never know what you'll find! Plus, there's live music, which always makes the ambience at least that little bit better.



The stall to go to with your pooch is the Soapy Moose stall, which Eddy and I have been frequenting for the past half year or so. They sell 100% Australian made and owned pet treats which, as a bonus, are free from preservatives, chemicals and additives. Tasters are available at the stall, to find which one your pooch likes most - it'll be a tough choice to make! For the cat owners out there, Soapy Moose does have some feline treats available too.





I can't emphasise how much Eddy loves their treats - he's tried literally everything in their product range, and there's not one that he's said no to.





Each treat is handmade with love by the talented Nandi Preller, who Eddy absolutely adores - possibly due to the love and cuddles that she bestows upon him? Being a regular customer has it's perks; Eddy has been the lucky recipient of free treats on more than one occasion, even getting the chance to taste test products before they're released to the public! Nandi gave us a free preview sample of Soapy Moose's newest product before it was released a week later; "sushi" for dogs (chicken and fish filling, with chicken skin as a substitute for seaweed). Thanks Nandi - Eddy loved it! For all the dog lovers out there, resident Daisy the golden retriever is also here at the markets for pats and cuddles.





In addition to super yummy treats, Soapy Moose also make fully customisable handmade collars and leads for cats and dogs, with an extensive range of cute fabrics to choose from. We love the designs they have available so much that we have ordered a grand total of 14 different bowties! All their items, including treats, are also available for purchase online through their website or through their Etsy shop. Nandi also threw in a black leash (that Eddy uses on a daily basis) for free, which was very much appreciated. You can't beat Soapy Moose when it comes to customer satisfaction!






Milton Markets

Location: Cribb St & Little Cribb St, Milton QLD 4064

You may know of the Milton Markets through its former name, Red Hill Farmers Markets. Milton Markets has heaps of fresh produce, a wide variety of gourmet foods, and some more, meaning that there is always something for everyone. There are more than 350 undercover carparks right next to the markets, costing just $2 per day - this is a huge bargain, especially considering how expensive parking in Milton usually is. To make things even better, there is no entrance fee for the Milton Markets - yay!

There is plenty of water available for pooches, with a bit of humour thrown in - I really enjoyed these signs, they gave me a good chuckle!





Since this article is focused on Brisbane's best dog friendly markets, the stall to go to with your fur baby is the Gumtree Greys stall. They are here once a fortnight, and may have cute greyhounds that are up for fostering and/or adoption. Gumtree Greys also hold a stall at Manly Farmers Market once a month. Best of all, they have yummy doggie ice cream from Hugo's Ice Creamery, available in three flavours: peanut butter and bacon, strawberry, and salmon. They're only $5 each! Eddy tried the peanut butter and bacon one - it may seem like an odd combination, but Eddy devoured his, so obviously it must be a good blend of flavours. We also bought one of each flavour to take home.



Greyhound Greys has a great system - you can pay for your ice cream first, and then come back for it later, once you're ready to leave the markets. You will be given a cute slip of paper with the flavour you wanted on it, as a proof of transaction record.



Another place where you can spoil your fur baby is a butcher's van which sells meat at reasonable prices, including bones for your four legged friend.




Nundah Farmers Market

Location: Station St, Nundah QLD 4012

Opening Times: Every Sunday 6am-12pm

Nundah Farmers Market is conveniently located right next to Nundah train station, meaning that it is easily accessible for those without access to a car. There is also ample (free) parking at the park 'n' ride at the train station, as the markets are held on Sundays. The markets here are not the largest, but they are packed with fresh produce including gourmet meats, seafood, herbs and spices, and organic free range eggs fresh from the farm, just to name a few. It's a great place to relax and grab some freshly roasted coffee to complement your breakfast. There are at least three things that puppy patrons of Nundah Markets can look forward to here - professional and reliable grooming courtesy of Dog Star Grooming, and homemade dog treats made with love from The DoggieBag and Jojo & Lola's Jerky Chompers. What lucky pups they are!



Lee Phillips from Dog Star Grooming has brought her mobile dog grooming service to Nundah Markets for 2 years now, and with it being pink, I couldn't resist signing Eddy up for a bath, which cost only $18, including a brush down, shampoo and conditioner, as well as a rub down. There are also optional extras available too, for a small additional cost, such as a 5 minute massage, or a cute bow tie/bandana. Lee did an exceptional job - I was amazed at how smooth Eddy's coat was after Lee brushed out all the loose hair.



They also have a stand selling a variety of homemade dog treats from The DoggieBag, whose slogan is "we love to spoil your dogs"! Their treats contain no preservatives, no sugar, no salt, and are best stored in the refrigerator after opening. You can order their treats online (or through email/phone - details on their website) if you don't live locally too, or visit them at the Redcliffe Jetty Markets on Sundays from 8am to 12pm.








Jojo and Lola's Jerky Chompers have a range of jerky treats that are homemade with 100% human grade ingredients, with no artificial additives nor added salt or sugar. They are also taste tested by dogs, so they are sure to be yummy! Jojo and Lola's treats can also be found at Carseldine Markets and Mitchie Makers Markets on alternate weeks. If you don't live locally, treats can also be ordered online through their website.





Jojo and Lola's Jerky Chompers have a range of flavours to choose from, with ingredients including beef, lamb, chicken, turkey, tuna, salmon, and mackerel. For the extra lucky pooches, Jojo and Lola's also have gourmet chompers that have an extra special yummy ingredient (or two) added. Each of the products in their line is individually hand made in small batches, cooked in a dehydrator for between 7 and 18 hours. They use only human-grade ingredients that are locally produced where possible, with no artificial colours or flavours, and no added salt, sugar, or preservatives.



Lola also hosts "Lola's Kissing Booth" every so often, which involves a $1 donation for a smooch, a cuddle, or a high-five (or anything along those lines, really) with Lola - all proceeds go to Pets Without Partners, a local self-funded charity. Get smooching for a good cause!






Carseldine Farmers & Artisan Markets

Location: 532 Beams Rd, Carseldine QLD 4034

Fun fact - similar to Kelvin Grove Village Markets, Carseldine Markets are also located at a QUT campus, albeit one that is no longer in use. This is a fairly large market, packed with seemingly endless stalls of produce, craft, gourmet foods, baristas... and the list goes on. There are heaps of areas to relax and consume your newly purchased goodies, to the sounds of live music courtesy of local artists. For dog owners planning to bring their pups with them to the markets, there are plenty of communal water bowls that your furbaby can drink from.

Jojo & Lola's Jerky Chompers (reviewed above) also has a stall at Carseldine Markets, usually once a fortnight. In addition, as of October 2016, canine-loving patrons of Carseldine Markets was blessed with the addition of a new business selling dog treats, handmade with love - Cherry Pie's Delights.





Considering that they are only a newly established business, they have a notable range of flavours available that are of impressive quality. They have testers available at their stall, so that your pup can sniff out which one is their favourite (if your dog is anything like mine, you'll probably have to end up getting every flavour, like I did). Cherry Pie's Delights was founded by Danielle Maybery, who works at a vet clinic, to overcome the barriers that some pet owners face. With many dogs suffering from allergies, for these dogs, the large majority of commercial pet treats cannot be consumed safely. As such, all Cherry Pie's Delights treats are preservative free, and made from natural ingredients, so there is no need to worry when it comes to your beloved pooch's safety.





Another store worth visiting is the Big Dogs Do Matter stall - the owner is super friendly, and will give your pup lots of love and affection. Big Dogs Do Matter sell a range of products designed to keep your furbabies warm and happy during the night. This includes: outdoor canvas mats, beds with canvas covers or mats, and cute canvas tepees. Big Dogs Do Matter's products contain no chemicals, meaning that they won't "drive your dog nuts"! The owner of the stall also mentioned that she hates wasting material, and tries to use what she can - this resulted in her having several cute bowties also up for grabs. She was kind enough to give Eddy one for free, because it matched his harness!
