Nelson Bay and Port Stephens is a dog-friendly region, with pet-friendly accommodation, walks and cafes which welcome pooches with open arms. If you love to stop for a coffee or lunch with your pooch under the table, you will find that every cafe with outside seating in the area will be happy to see you - with many of them providing water bowls for your thirsty pooch. But which ones are the best?

These lunch venues below are the ones that our family have discovered - however, if you have found any more, please leave a comment at the top of this article and share your top tips. So give your pooch a whistle, grab the lead and hit the town for lunch this weekend!

Cheeky Dog Bar would have to be the most dog-friendly venue that we have discovered - the name says it all! It is a modern gastropub that is located underneath Bannisters Hotel at Soldiers Point. It has a small outdoor area out the back and we have even seen dogs inside the sports bar area, sitting quietly with their owners. Check out their Facebook events for doggie events such as the Cheeky Dog Show, which matches rescue dogs with new owners. See here for details. For a full article on Cheeky Dog Bar, see here.

Bay Harbour Cafe is a fish and chip shop right on the water at Nelson Bay - located at the end of Teramby Road, near the seafood outlets. This venue has a long verandah along the edge of the water, which is suitable for small dogs to sit under the table. They seem to enjoy the sights, smells and views from this venue, just as much as their humans! The fish and chips are also the best in the bay! See here for details. For a full article on Bay Harbour Cafe, see here.

Most cafes around Nelson Bay have outdoor areas to sit with your pooch. Some of the most popular ones that you see people enjoying lunch with their dogs under the table are Blueys, The Little Nel, Inner Light Tearooms, Evviva (back courtyard - enter through Rivers car park) and Little Beach Boathouse - Below Deck (lower waterfront deck).

These are the dog-friendly lunch venues that our family have discovered - do you know of any more? If so, please leave a comment at the top of this article, as you can never know about too many places to visit! If they have good food, good views and a water bowl for your pooch, you could easily spend a lazy Sunday afternoon just chillin' in the bay. Sounds good to me!
