Many great sweets are available in our restaurants and cafes. Some of the best desserts you can treat yourself to in Sydney are covered within these pages. Some of these sweets need to be consumed inside a restaurant, while others can easily be purchased on the street for just a few dollars. After all, summer isn't too far away as at the time of writing this.

1. Ice Cream - Gelato Messina and Via Del Corso

All things being equal, Sydney loves its ice cream. Within a blink of an eye we have four Gelato Messina stores to choose from. The recent Gelato Messina opened in Surry Hills within the last couple of months. Having tried their poached fig and marsala, as well as the coconut and lychee combinations, gelato heaven can be found here.

Furthermore, gelato (and sweet) heaven can also be found inside fashionable Westfield Sydney. Welcome to Via Del Corso. It is easy to procrastinate with the diverse range of ice cream flavours here. Their pistacchio is divine. If you're not in the mood for ice cream, this establishment has some mouth watering macarons and hand made chocolates for the taking. Otherwise if the sponge is more your sweet tooth forte, then you can't go past their cakes.

2. Fried Ice Cream - Spice Gourmet Thai Parramatta

The fried ice cream dessert is generous in size here. If you love your ice cream fried or otherwise, you will love the vanilla bean taste with melted and hot chocolate sauce. The winner is the coconut fried batter that tastes like a real coconut with relatively icy ice cream. This dish is also beautifully presented.

3. Fried Ice Cream - New Shanghai Ashfield

It is such a thrill to see New Shanghai along Liverpool Road in Ashfield re-open after their renovations. Busy as ever, and their fried ice cream is refreshingly different. The batter is more like a thick, lemony sponge with vanilla ice cream that doesn't melt too quickly. A match made in heaven. Surprisingly good.

4. Chat Thai, Westfield Sydney

The Lort Chong Kathi was amazingly different to what I was expecting. This is one icy dessert that is rather filling and somewhat healthy. A great range of fruity beans, coconut milk and ice. Close to an ice cream, but not quite. So cheap for what it's worth. This is when saving the best for last is a good thing.

Sydney is also home to the frozen yoghurt revolution that is gaining popularity, as well as to probiotic yoghurt that you can buy in places like Top Juice. You don't need much in order to enjoy a sweet treat every now and again.
