It might seem as though this article is jumping on the cupcake bandwagon a little too late, but now that Sydney's cupcake obsession has time on its side, it's a good time to talk about which cupcakery houses the best.

If it's taste you're after, nothing can beat Ghermez. Ghermez is a modest counter store in Bondi Westfield, but don't let that fool you - Ghermez sells the most delicious cupcakes I have tried to date. There are also Ghermez stores in Alexandria and the CBD, but I can't vouch for those. The cupcakes at Ghermez are light and fluffy, complete with creamy icing. They come in a range of flavours from classic vanillas and chocolate muds to peanut butter and sticky date varieties. Another plus is that Ghermez cupcakes come in two sizes - regular and mini.

If it's class you're after, then head to Sparkle Cupcakery, a slightly pricey but uber sophisticated cupcake store in Surry Hills. Sparkle Cupcakes, available in multiple flavours, are uniform in appearance, distinguished by a different coloured fondant dot on top of the white icing. Enjoy your Sparkle cupcakes with tea or coffee - or even champagne.

If it's cute you're after, My Little Cupcake takes the cake. My Little Cupcake is both a cupcake and retail store and it's hard to decide which is cuter - the cupcakes or the gifts. It's been sometime since I've eaten a cupcake here but, if memory serves, it was worth the trip. Don't stop by on a Sunday or Monday though - My Little Cupcake will be closed.

If you're looking for a well-dressed cupcake, you're best bet is Cupcakes on Pitt. Don't be fooled by the name, you'll also find Cupcakes on Pitt on York St and in Westfield shopping centres at Parramatta and Chatswood. These cupcakes come in an extensive range of flavours each decorated in its own unique way. Cupcakes on Pitt are also the perfect size to buy a whole bunch and take along to a party, picnic or gathering.

If it's small you're after, don't forget about BabyCakes by Renee, on Erskine Street or in Summer Hill or Leichhardt. BabyCakes cupcakes are tiny costing only $1.20 for traditional flavours or $1.50 for gourmet.

I have always wanted to visit Sparkle cupcakery, whenever i see it from the bus it looks adorable and the cupcakes look perfect and so tasty. It's always busy too, so the cupcakes must be good. Cupcakes on Pitt also sell delicious macaroons. Mmmm...

Ghermez in Alexandria is definately a winner, we've had cupcakes a fair few times from there at work and they are delicious...and good value if you get a cupcake and coffee deal.
