Everyone has a different opinion on what makes a good coffee. Whether you like a latte, cappuccino, expresso, mocha, strong, weak, milky - no two people are the same. To try and solve the problem, most coffee outlets now have a wall full of options to choose from and barista's have to hone their skills at making them all - to everyone's liking.

So how can there be a list of the Top 5 when everyone's tastes are so different? This list is based on the coffee spots that are the most popular - the ones that you see people lining up for a takeaway or see a café that is absolutely choccas and the one next door is empty. So after getting my caffeine fix at all of them and talking to other local's, this is our Top 5.

Where is your favourite coffee spot?

COMMON GROUNDS CAFE, Jeffries street, Gowrie

Common Grounds Cafe is so popular that diners are often standing outside the door on weekends waiting for a table. The reason for this is the beautiful Campos coffee and the matching food that has people coming back for more. Add to this a funky interior with murals on the walls and a little outdoor area at the back, this café is one of the most, if not the most, popular café and coffee spot in Tuggeranong. Situated at the Gowrie neighbourhood shops, this café has relied on word of mouth to become the local favourite that it is today.

BREW BAR, Anketell Street, Tuggeranong Hyperdome

Brew Bar[/LINK] could also be Number 1 on this list as one of the most busiest coffee outlets and cafes in Tuggeranong. A personal favourite of mine, it is situated outside the shopping centre in a strip of food outlets called South Life. This coffee spot is always busy with families, couples, office workers and bike riders who ride in for a coffee and can keep an eye on their bikes. It has a good number of outdoor tables, friendly staff, a casual environment to catch up with friends and of course, a delicious blend of coffee. The owner is often the barista, saying hello to everyone that walks in and wishing a good day to everyone on the way out.

There is also another Brew Bar outlet around the corner in Reed Street that is also another busy place to visit, if not a little bit more out of the way.

ESPRESSO ROOM, Tuggeranong Hyperdome
This little coffee spot is also located inside Tuggeranong Hyperdome, opposite Target on the ground floor. It is another outlet which is always busy, however this usually has a queue for takeaways for people to take back to their office or to wander the centre. There are a few tables inside and a communal table outside, however takeaways are its primary business. Situated opposite a toddler play area, it is also popular with parents and carers getting a caffeine fix while their kids play. The Espresso Room makes delicious coffee to most peoples taste using Ona beans from Project Origin, where sustainable coffee is of the highest quality. There are also Espresso Room outlets at Woden and Belconnen Westfield shopping centres.

LAZY MAYS CAFE, Cowlishaw St, Greenway

This is another coffee spot that has the winning formula of funky murals on the wall, delicious coffee and quality food. Their coffee is their own unique blend, which has people lining up at the takeaway counter each day for more - especially in Winter. Located a few streets back from the Town Centre, Lazy Mays can be a a quieter option to visit during the week for quality coffee - however get in early on weekends to nab a table. Opened in 2014, Lazy Mays is fast growing a local following as word gets around about their coffee - with equally impressive food.

5 SENSES CAFE, Tuggeranong Hyperdome

5 Senses is a busy breakfast and lunch café well known with locals for both their own blend of coffee and their particularly good food. Also located at Tuggeranong Hyperdome, at a quiet end of the centre, it has a spacious seating area and a few tables outside. This coffee spot opens early and is near an external door on the corner of Pittman and Anketell street so you can come in for a coffee, takeaway or breakfast before the centre opens. This café may not be as popular as the above four options for its coffee, but once you try one you will be back for more.

Whilst you are in the Tuggeranong Hyperdome, other popular options include Café Luxxe and Caffé Cherry Beans (using 100% pure Arabica beans), both with relaxed atmospheres and quality coffee.

Tuggeranong may not be known for its café culture in comparison to other areas of Canberra, however it is certainly gaining momentum with a growing number of cafes and coffee outlets to choose from. Although these are the most well-known coffee spots for location and taste, there are other great coffee spots for locals in Erindale, Kambah and other neighbourhood centres.

If you are a coffee enthusiast, have a chat to the friendly barista behind the counter and learn more about the coffee you have enjoyed. For those of us who just enjoy a coffee and know what we like, it is a tasty way to explore Tuggeranong in the search for the one that just hits the spot.

Which one will become your favourite?
