I have a mild addiction. I'm not completely dependent but if I don't get my daily fix, I can become lethargic, irritable and the headache - geez, it's just not even worth contemplating. But don't worry, it's nothing too serious. I simply love my coffee.

So, where is the best coffee on the Lower North Shore?

My recommendation would be 'Forsyth'. Nestled in the suburban hub of Naremburn, owner Rob Forsyth (coffee buyer and roast master) has been creating and fine tuning his coffee blends for over 25 years.

Rob's expertise and knowledge is evident. He actually takes into account whether an area has been in draught or whether there have been unseasonable rains because the weather conditions can change the coffees flavour. And the blends from different regions allow a complexity of flavours which ensures your daily coffee is a moment of sheer bliss.

I typically order a long black. A long black is rather unforgiving. There's no milk or sugar to soften the blow. Friends and family have taken me to various places assuring me "It's great coffee here". Yep, it's okay but it ain't Forsyth. I am not a milk coffee drinker so I can't really comment but one of my close girlfriends regularly orders a latte and she's always a happy camper.

For a leisurely 'fix', you can enjoy your coffee alfresco under the umbrellas and spreading tree, next to their very own coffee plantation. Or, if you're in a hurry you can pop into their coffee den for a speedy takeaway.

And for those who are interested in broadening your coffee IQ, Forsyth run barista training courses, coffee appreciation courses and domestic-espresso courses.

But I am not completely set in my ways. I am open to suggestions. Where is the best coffee on the Lower North Shore?

I really love the coffee at Montague in Crows Nest, it's near the fountain and grassed park area. I am a latte drinker, have no knowledge of where the beans come from or what style roast it is...but I know I like it :)

From poverty to plenty. The lower north shore had bad coffee everywhere, it now boasts at least 4 coffee shops where consistently good coffee is served. Kalay's Kitchen, Sydney St. Willoughby; Bean Drinking Crows Nest; Dose, High St Willoughby and a hole in the wall place at Northbridge on Sailor's Bay road near the carpet shop.

Abbott street cafe in Cammeray....... The best coffee in LNS. Serves campos and barista is sensational! It's behind the Cammeray post office. It's our benchmark for a great coffee.

Forsyth's definately does the best coffee!!!! The staff are super friendly & there's a great vibe going on. So nice to sit outside under the tree canopy & take in the neighbourhood feel. My husband & I live a short walk from Forsyths & we spend a LOT of time there!!!

Forsyth's is head and shoulders above anything on the LNS. Glad to see it getting the great reviews

I have been drinking coffee in Lower North Shore since 1992 when I migrated from Hong Kong. The best place by far is: Rossini at Chatswood Chase Food Court, serving DANESI coffee. Boss Thomas Rossini, good sound Italian cuisine as well

I agree that Forsyth’s is great. Over the years I have bought a lot of roasted beans and brewed coffee from Rob’s shop, as well as food and coffee equipment.

Now there are plenty of new places with good coffee on the LNS.

Elsewhere on Lower Northshore, I think the best coffee at Chatswood is at Steam Engine near the Train Station. However they have limited food and seating. For more of both try Café Cherry Beans on the same level as Woolworths.

Artarmon has great coffee and a large selection of good food at The Wilks, Salvage Specialty Coffee, Everyday Canteen and Hampden 86. All good.
