Where is the best coffee in Hobart? This question is a tricky one to answer, as overall, I'd say Hobart has some mighty-fine places to get caffeinated. It also depends on what you're in the mood for or if you have plenty of time. For coffee on the go, Ecru or its mother Villino Espresso in Criterion St are surely not to be sneezed at.
Walk into
Villino Espresso and take a whiff - you'll know they're serious about their coffee and that you'll always get a good bean - a bean that they've roasted themselves on their precise roaster.
For coffee where you can take your time and enjoy the ambiance a bit more, along with some mighty fine food the lovely
Pigeon Hole Cafe is one of this writer's favourites.
If you're after a drop that will give you some oomph, then you won't look passed the coffee with this very name: Oomph coffee, either in its lovely building at 38 Barrack St or at one of the many other places using their beans about town. The carrot cake slice and coffee for $6 is a pretty good deal too. The carrot cake slice is nice and moist.
In Salamanca Square
Salvete and Machine Laundry Cafe are supplying fine coffees to the people, or perhaps you'd rather head over closer to Hunter St and give Timeless Way of Jam Packed your nod for best coffee.
If the pick went to me I'd give it to Pigeon Hole, with Villino Espresso coming a very close second (and the monte carlo I had there was just delicious - who needs a real breakfast?). With a special mention to Zest the Library Cafe because they gave me the kick I needed.
Now I've had my say it's time for others to comment. Come on coffee lovers - call me a hack and decry my horrible omission of your favourite from the list. Honestly, I found the coffee in Hobart really good and I'm sure I'm missing many wonderful little places from this list. If I've listed your favourite give me a pat on the back and tell me which of my nominated drops gets your vote. And if anyone hasn't tried any of those few I've mentioned, do give them a go. So, come on, tell me, I'm dying to know: where is your personal favourite coffee in Hobart?
