A woman floating in my coffee looking back at me

After a week in the Northern Territory, we were really hanging out for a great coffee when we hit Adelaide.

But we actually got a lot more than we bargained for as we sheltered from the blistering heat in the Art Gallery's Restaurant.

The cup arrived on the table where we said a perfunctory "thank you" without taking any undue note of the cup's contents.

Then I went to take a sip and was stopped with my mouth fully agape. My expression turning from one of expectancy to astonishment.

Sketched onto the latte was the exquisite wispy portrait of an ethereal woman.

We oohed and ahhed for several minutes before the need for coffee finally won and I slurped up that lovely face. For once only cursing my coffee addiction.

Our talented barista was twenty-one year old Bryan Astley.

Bryan has a growing repertoire of coffee art which includes female faces, cartoon characters, pandas and even dragons.

He has even been known to create customer's portraits floating above their coffee.

And the coffee never has a chance to get cold as Bryan can etch a masterpiece, with the tip of a toothpick, in under 20 seconds.

He sees his art as a gift to his customers and says he enjoys seeing the expressions on people's faces when they suddenly discover what is looking back at them from their cup.

So Adelanians here is the question. Surely this has to be your finest coffee artiste? Or do you have other contenders?

Oh and also a message to the Art Gallery Restaurant. I only hope you are paying Bryan great wages as his coffee art is certainly an incredible drawcard for tourists and locals alike.

Oh wow I am totally amazed. There cannot possibly be any other contenders for coffee art such as this in Adelaide. How befitting that it is in The Art Gallery restaurant too.

Hi Nardine, Are you sure Bryan is still working there? It would be really bad luck to fly to Adelaide, visit the gallery, & discover he no longer works there! Ahhh
