This will be my first Christmas in Adelaide, and I'm wondering where to find the best Christmas light display.

If you're heading to Melbourne (my old home town) for Christmas, the answer is easy. Head to The Boulevarde in Ivanhoe to witness a tradition that dates back to the 1950s, with an amazing number of residents putting on spectacular displays. A word of warning though: you'll be jostling for position with about 100.000 others, and sometimes up to 20,000 in one night.

The Boulevarde in Ivanhoe is the #1 place for Christmas lights in Melbourne

So what about Adelaide? I've discovered a few displays that are already up. But are they Adelaide's best? I'd love to hear about your favourites.

Daryl, Jeanette and family have built up their light display in Skylark Close, Flagstaff Hill over the last 15 years, and now have over 20 separate displays including a Santa's workshop in their garden. Check their website for viewing times.

The Christmas lights are already on at 5 Albara Road, Ingle Farm, and will be through to January 2014, every night from 8 pm to 11.30 pm.

You can head to 10 Neptune Crescent in West Beach, but you'll have to wait until the 7th of December. They are promising over 18,000 lights on the roof, house, windows and lawn, hedging their bets with Santa and a nativity scene.

To all of you who go to the trouble to decorate your homes, thank you for bringing joy to the world.

Westminster School in Marion have a great Christmas display each year, and the town of Lobethal is a great drive around the many houses.

Simone Crescent in Morphett Vale South Australia is a great street to visit as most houses have lit up to celebrate Christmas. Best to walk the street as it does get busy. Santa visits every night from 8.45pm to late.
