The Christmas Pageant has come and gone, Santa is officially in town, and we're finally in December. This means that streets and shopping centres are starting to string their lights and deck their halls. Have you been keeping your eye on who has the best decorations in town?
Something to keep an eye out for is the Art of Christmas Creative Tree Trail. Dotted around the CBD are Christmas tree shaped artworks, each designed by local artists. One of the more interesting trees is Amy Joy Watson's Sliced, a multicoloured Christmas tree made from netting that hangs from the Adelaide Railway Station ceiling.
The Mall itself has faced a bit of derision over their festive decorations. They've taken a modern and simplistic approach, but some feel it lacks a little Christmas cheer. Adelaide Arcade have also kept things simple, but their bushy wreaths and shining Christmas trees are a traditional touch that suits the gorgeous old building.
David Jones in Adelaide Central Plaza takes an unusual approach with their gift-wrapped Mercedes Benz and dangling Mercedez Benz badges hanging down, but inside the actual store there are trees and wreaths on every corner covered with sparkling gold decorations. The whole place shines. They still might be beat out by Myer who have opened their new Santaland this year, complete with a special Christmas train to take you all the way to Santa.
We've barely scratched the surface of the city's Christmas decorations, and there's even more when you start heading further afield. Make sure you check out the Town Hall lit up with Christmas projections and the giant Christmas tree at Victoria Square / Tarndanyangga.
