Chocolate, mmmm. The mere mention of the word makes my mouth salivate. Chocolate is one of life's guilty pleasures, although it needn't be. Research has shown that chocolate (especially dark) may lower cholesterol, prevent heart disease, and may even help to prevent cancer. It has even been claimed that chocolate is better than sex. So next time you're in the mood, head to one of Brisbane's chocolate boutiques.

Bittersweet - The Chocolate Boutique (Petrie Terrace) has been creating and selling handcrafted chocolates for nearly thirty years. In addition to traditional flavours, Bittersweet has sixty unique chocolate flavours. Their signature chocolate is the Prune Delicacy. They soak the prune in bourbon for six months, stuff it with white chocolate, tangerine, and Drambuie ganache, and then dip it in dark Callebaut couverture chocolate . Yum.

Mayfield Chocolates (Spring Hill) make original, award-winning chocolates; many of them world firsts. Try their Australian and Native varieties using wattle, lemon myrtle, and Kakadu plum. You can purchase Mayfield Chocolates at their retail stores in Spring Hill and Tamborine Mountain, or at selected stockists.

Chocolate To Die For (CBD) carries Mayfield Chocolates alongside Belgian couverture from some of Australia's best chocolate makers. You can pick your own or purchase a pre-packed gift box. Chocolate Moments has two retail outlets in the city. Art of Fine Chocolate (CBD) manufactures and sells gourmet, handmade chocolate using Belgium couverture chocolate while World of Chocolate (Myer Centre) carries confectionary and chocolate from around the world.

Monty's Chocolates [/LINK](Paddington) is a cafe and chocolate shop, importing and retailing the world's best chocolate. Two more chocolate cafes that package and retail their chocolate goodness are Max Brenner (South Bank and Portside Wharf) and Chocolateria San Churro (South Bank).
