This list contains popular well known chocolate cafes in Sydney, but one particular establishment on this list is one of Sydney's best kept secrets, and would not necessarily be one of the first places that comes to mind when one thinks of quality chocolate. Below is a great guide to the best chocolate houses in Sydney. Life is short. Time to appreciate the finest chocolate.

1. The Boon at Darlinghurst

The beautiful hot chocolate at Boon Chocolate

As you are heading along Victoria Street, towards Kings Cross, you will find yourself in a delicate sanctuary of cocoa in this petite and smallish chocolate house. You will feel welcome the moment you step foot into the doors of 251 Victoria Street at Darlinghurst. It is tempting to take photos of the delicate chocolate display, however (and chances are) you will be told off for doing so. You would be forgiven for salivating at rose petal flavoured chocolate and honeycomb chocolate pieces.

The good news is that if you order the 'The Connoisseur Hot Drink Set', you will receive a Belgian hot chocolate (milk or dark) and will succumb to your senses real quick (beware, this drink is really rich), plus you get to pick a chocolate piece from the mouthwatering display cabinet and a small cup of chocolate mousse.

The upstairs dining area is cosy and homely despite being rather small in size. Chic and cosmopolitan ambience with tasteful artworks in complimenting the rather dark and cosy chill out space that is the Boon Terrace Lounge. Worth it once in a while.

2. Lindt Chocolat Cafe - Martin Place and Cockle Bay Wharf

The hot chocolate (the milk variety) is the winner. It is great that you get an opportunity to control how much Lindt chocolate syrup and milk (frothy) you want. The chocolate syrup also makes the way for great chocolate licks with one of your fingers.

The servings are enough for two cups of delicious hot chocolate, and yet is so appropriate for the cooler weather.

3. Bon Bon Chocolates

This establishment is located in the perfect backdrop at the Queen Victoria Building. A great place to indulge in a couple of small pieces of chocolate before embarking on an opulent shopping adventure. Great service and rather pleasing, yet not too strong on the senses.

4. Max Brenner

Not the best hot chocolate I have tried here, however their chocolate licks and chocolate dipped bananas and strawberries make way for an indulgent treat. Love the stores at Paddington, Manly and at the Met Centre in the city.

Jut remember to compliment your chocolates with a glass of water. Bon appetit.
