Here's five impressive and unique cafes to tempt you

Cavallini is located at 354 Queens Parade in Fitzroy North. It is an artisan bakery, patisserie and espresso bar, which has been operating for more than a decade and is a favourite with locals. Catering options are also available. For a perfect afternoon tea, try their arincini and delicious macarons with a coffee served by award-winning baristas. They are open Monday to Friday from 7am to 5pm, Saturday 7am to 5pm, and Sundays from 8am to 4pm. For further information, call (03) 9486 3883.

The Generator offers Asian/Australian dishes and an impressive array of muffins, slices and cookies with high quality coffee. They recently won an award for best local cafe. The eatery is located at 89-91 Bakers Road in Coburg North and a weekend favourite is the vegetarian hangover breakfast. Bomb Cafe is at 229 Johnston Street in Abbotsford. They are open during the week from 7am to 3.30pm, and on Saturdays (from mid-June), and are popular with locals and businesses in the area. An outdoor seating area is available for sunny days. This cafe has some great lunch deals and some standout dishes like the halloumi burger and mushroom and spinach penne, with some other great lunch details too. Noughts and Crosses is in their second year of successful operation in Flemington. Their menu includes a range of fresh and seasonal produce with Small Batch coffee, in a cosy space at 32 Pin Oak Crescent. They serve great breakfast rolls and eggs and sides, along with a short but well crafted lunch menu and drinks. The cafe is open on weekdays from 7am to 4pm and weekends from 7.30am. A Minor Place is at 103 Albion Street in Brunswick. The menu includes fresh bagels, tempting pancakes and sandwiches. The cafe is open from 8am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and from 8.30am on Sundays and they can be contacted on (03) 9384 3131.
