Melburnians love long lingering lunches and the CBD is home to at least 150 brunch spots - but just where are the very best brunch spots in the CBD?

Typical brunch menu items include savoury crepes, French toast, quiche, waffles, omelettes, bagels, fritters, pancakes and various egg dishes; poached eggs, scrambled eggs, eggs benedict, baked eggs, boiled eggs - I'm beginning to sound like Bubba - you get the drift - yummy, comfort food which is perfect for the early afternoon hours.

The Melbourne WeekendNotes team have had quite a few recommendations and top CBD selections have included the popular brunch spots Famish'd Cafe, The Hardware Societe Cafe, The European and Manchester Press Cafe.

My own recommendations include Roule Galette - home to amazing savoury galettes, such as the vegetarian Popeye (béchamel with cheese, mushroom and fresh spinach), the classic Complète (egg, ham, shredded cheese and butter) and Monsieur K (Raclette and prosciutto).

If you are looking for classic brunch dishes - Mr Tulk is perfect for all those egg dishes; steamed eggs, scrambled parmesan eggs, poached eggs, fried eggs, omelettes and more. From memory, brunch runs till 5pm - you can truly have a long brunch here. There are breads, pastries and baguettes available here as well.

And finally there is Café Keyif - which has a breakfast menu which lasts until 2pm on Saturday and Sunday. Perfect brunch dishes include French toast with maple syrup, eggs florentine with smoked salmon, Mediterranean Breakfast and the 'Big Brekky.'

There are of course, many more great brunch spots in the Melbourne CBD, so if you know of a great cafe or restaurant which has a great brunch menu, please let us know about it by leaving a comment.

As always, we look forward to your feedback.
