Do you enjoy getting up in the morning and making a healthy banana smoothie to start your day? Or perhaps you like to fill up with a smoothie after a morning run? Whatever your reason, banana smoothies are a delicious way to begin your day with a burst of B6 vitamins, fibre, minerals, antioxidants and goodness. Of course, you can always go for a plain smoothie with banana and milk, however, if you would like to add some variations to your glass, you can add protein powder, nuts, seeds, oats, maple syrup, chia seeds and much more.

What do you think is the best banana smoothie recipe? Do you have a "go-to" recipe which you drink every morning? If so, please leave a comment at the top of this article with your recipe, and it will be shown underneath for others to read. These easy recipes below, are my personal favourites. What do you put in your banana smoothie?

* All of these recipes serves 1 - 2 people.

A filling combination which tastes amazing!

Banana, Oat & Date Smoothie

1/2 cup dried dates, pitted
1.5 cups milk (split into 1 cup and 1/2 cup)
1/2 cup oats
1/2 cup sliced frozen banana

Place dates, milk and 1/2 cup of water in a small saucepan and heat on low for 5 minutes, until dates are soft. Mash the dates with a fork to check they are pliable. Allow to completely cool. In a blender, add the date mixture, oats, banana and 1/2 cup milk and blend for one minute.

Weet-Bix & Banana Smoothie

1 cup frozen banana slices
1 Weet-bix, broken up
1 cup vanilla yoghurt
Squirt of honey
1 cup milk

Add all the ingredients to a blender and blitz for one minute.

Choc Mint & Banana Smoothie

1 cup frozen sliced banana
1/2 tablespoon cocoa powder
2 tablespoons fresh mint leaves (finely chopped)
1 cup milk

Add all the ingredients to a blender and blitz for one minute.

If you're sharing your smoothie with kids, I have found that my young daughter doesn't like anything with "bits" in it. If your kids are the same, then omit the granola, oats, Weet-bix or mint and replace them with their favourite yoghurt or a small scoop of vanilla ice-cream - yum!

I would love to hear your recipes, so please leave a comment at the top of this article and share what ingredients you love in your banana smoothie. If you're anything like me, half the fun is looking in my pantry and seeing what combinations I can come up with -.you never know what will work until you try it!
