Where's the Best Brazilian Restaurant in Melbourne?

Brazilian cuisine is wonderfully eclectic with both South American influences and European influences. Some of the classic hearty dishes include Tacacá, a much loved soup with shrimp and peppers, Caldeirada, a Portuguese fish stew, Sarapatel, a rich stew which is made with meat and offal, Galinhada, a stew with rice and chicken and Carne de sol, salted beef which can be served like a hamburger. Plus there are tasty fried snacks such as Coxinhas, Empanadas and Pastels and Pizza in Brazil is also very popular.

In Melbourne you can find local variations of these classic Brazilian dishes in establishments such as Vyve Cafe & Restaurant , where the menu features dishes such as Feijoada, a typical Brazilian stew of beans, pork and beef, which staff recommend is served with a Caipirinha, Brazil's national cocktail. The menu at Vyve Cafe & Restaurant is not strictly Brazilian - it also features Spanish dishes.

Rio's Brazilian Restaurant is another establishment serving Brazilian inspired cuisine, but it has to be said that most probably come here for the entertainment, which includes a 'Carnival Floor Show,' rather than the food. Here you can dine on a range of grilled marinated meats; sausage, chicken, lamb, pork and beef and there is a buffet of different salads and vegetables. Rio's Brazilian Restaurant is more a celebration of Brazilian culture, than a foodie destination.

BlueFire Churrascaria Grill features a menu similar to Rio's Brazilian Restaurant; it is based on the Churrasco cooking style - which is essentially grilled meats. Given the Docklands location BlueFire Churrascaria Grill is relatively pricey - it is $49.00 per person (with dessert $59.00 per person). For this price you will dine on a tasting platter and can sample South American spiced sausage, Chicken (five spice marinade), Lamb ((lemon, garlic, olive oil and fresh herbs), Beef (oregano, black pepper, cumin and garlic), Pork (smoked tomato and chilli marinade), Fish of the day (lemon, garlic and herb) and Calamari (garlic, herb and paprika). An À la carte menu is also available; it features 'Iguaçu' - a grilled pork cutlet and fried plantain and mixed 'Churrascaria' platter. The desserts also have typical Brazilian flavours; Caipirinha panna cotta, Cachaça poached pear and Cream of papaya with cassis liquor.
