When you think shopping, everyone immediately mentions Melbourne, Sydney and Overseas. Seriously, Adelaide is holding its own. With the number of online stores readily available, it's easy to forget about good old thrill of the chase. Think of the heyday of retail, walking up and down Kind William Rd. and Rundle Mall until you were so exhausted you had to stop for a coffee or cheeky afternoon wine! In the name of research, well that's what I told my husband, I decided to go shopping the good old fashioned way – with my crew of girlfriends, purses ready and more importantly, with our feet.

I rediscovered some of my old time independent favourites are still going strong as well as a couple of newbies to add to my "must shop" list. I compiled, in no particular order, a list of Adelaide owned retailers which should be on your "must shop" list if they aren't already:

TuYu Adelaide: this store has been around for over 20 years and seriously, it's easy to see why it's still going strong. Amazing customer service and an outfit perfect for any occasion. There are racks full of dresses, tops, pants and accessories from the hottest designers such as Assilio, The Fifth, Shona Joy plus many more which can only be seen to be believed. Just visit this store, that's all I can say.

Attitudes Boutique: what a wonderful surprise it was to walk into this store. It has had a renaissance since the last time I had visited and you can see the difference. A brighter new location which stocks labels such as Mink Pink, Finders Keepers, Blessed are the Meek and One Teaspoon. If you're at Glenelg, pop in as you won't leave empty handed.
Attitudes Boutique

The Little Boutique : Grange has had a resurgence in the last few years and this boutique is one of the reasons why. Reminiscent of a day relaxing at the beach, this store transports you to a lazy day soaking up the sun in Byron bay. Think Gypsy meets Boho, Flowy floaty dresses, ripped denim with sandals and the most glorious bags from Mahiya. If beach goddess is your thing, your right on the money with the vibe of this store.

Forbidden fashion House
Forbidden Fashion House: A little gem hidden in the Western suburbs on Woodville Rd, houses some of Australia's most loved labels. The service is fantastic and the price point easily affordable. If you're after a piece for the weekend, pay this store a visit. The staff are extremely helpful and your purchases will be frequent – trust me check out their Facebook page!.

Nikki Belle : The Parade hosts some of the most amazing restaurants, gift stores and clothing stores in Adelaide, but you can't visit without a little look in Nikki Belle. Formerly at Burnside Village, Nikki Belle has undergone a makeover and its new premises on the Parade is worth a visit.

Two other stores which are on my Christmas gift voucher list and absolutely rate a mention are Azalia and Love Affair Boutique. Both in the Eastern Suburbs, although Azalia has a second store in Croydon, these are permanent fixtures on my shopping expeditions. Again, amazing customer service and a range of clothing and accessories which fulfil any shopping brief.
So set up your afterpay or Zippay accounts, grab a few friends and head on out for day of amazing shopping discoveries. As proven by my recent purchases, Adelaide really does have an array of amazing locally owned retailers which deserve both support and a visit.
