If you're like many people, you love the styling products your favorite beauty salon uses, and you may wonder if you can get the same products for use at home between appointments. If you live in New York and want to do this, or are visiting New York and run out of your favorite styling product, there are several beauty supply stores that carry the same products used in salons.

These are exactly what the salons use, and sometimes they are only sold in bulk sizes. If you can't find personal sizes, go ahead and buy the larger ones, and buy plastic pump or squeeze containers to transfer the product into. Think about it this way—you won't have to buy any more for quite a while.

Ricky's NYC

Not only can you find your beauty supplies here, but you can also buy the accessories, make-up, and other things to go along with your hairstyle. Be prepared for a little bit of a shock, though, because this store is very unusual in a number of ways.

The store prides itself on fitting more into the category of "funky" than "functional". This means that you're going to find products that you might not see elsewhere. Don't let that keep you away, though, you may find something that turns to out to be your new favorite thing.

Sally Beauty Supply

This is a "chain" beauty supply store that sells a large array of professional-use beauty products. The store sells to the public as well as those who are in the hairstyling business. There is a Sally Beauty Supply store in Brooklyn, near 2129 Ralph Avenue. The hours for this location are 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM, Monday through Saturday, and 12:00 noon until 5:00 PM on Sunday.

Ray Beauty Supply, 721 8th Avenue, New York City

You can find just about anything you need at Ray Beauty Supply. This includes styling tools such as blow dryers, curling and flat irons, and hot rollers. In addition, you can find professional hair cutting tools, including scissors and clippers. Store hours are 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Mondays-Wednesdays, 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM, Thursdays and Fridays, and 9:00 AM until 5:15 PM on Saturday.

B & S Beauty Supply, Inc., 61 St. James Place, New York City

This is a wholesale beauty supply distributor that has the ability to ship worldwide. If you are visiting New York from another country, you can make arrangements to have products exported to your home country.

Some of the products that can be purchased by either domestic or foreign consumers include professional-grade hair dryers that are equipped with AC motors. These dryers last longer than those equipped with DC motors, giving you more personal or professional use.

Why? Because New York is all about beauty
When: Check with respective store
Where: All over New York City
Cost: Depends on the item
Sally and Ricky's are my two favorite places. Their prices are pretty great, especially considering how expensive the products can be. As far as Ricky's, you're absolutely right -- some of the things are definitely funky. They have every day products and things that you always wanted to try if you had the guts to, like a pink wig :)
