Sometimes, after a long night or a hard week, waking up to a bacon and egg roll on a Saturday morning is the ultimate way to start the weekend. If you are organised enough to have all the ingredients at home, then the smell of bacon cooking and wafting through your home will draw people into the kitchen, like moths to a flame. If you don't have everything you need at home however, then why not check out some of the venues around Canberra that offer a good bacon and egg roll. The following are some of the favourites we have found - some are a little up-market, some are cheap and cheerful and others are just simply delicious. If you have a favourite bacon and egg roll hideout that you go back to each weekend, please leave your tip at the top of this article.

You can never try too many! (...although our cholesterol levels may say otherwise!)

Little Bird Café is located in Barton, just a short drive south of the CBD. This friendly café (with a cute name) offers a range of delicious breakfast items and decent-sized servings. Their bacon and egg roll comes with cheddar cheese and BBQ sauce for $12.90 - and paired with a steaming mug of hot coffee, it is a good heart-starter for any day of the week. Little Bird is busy with local office workers during the weekday, but by the weekend it is relaxed and chilled out - perfect for breakfast with friends, family or with the dogs (as pooches are welcome too). See here for details.

38 Espresso is located on the Kingston Foreshore and has the best value bacon and egg roll on this list. Out the front of 38 Espresso is a very busy chef on a small BBQ, cooking up bacon and egg rolls for just $5 for the takeaway crowd. If you want to add any extras, its costs $1 extra for cheese, $2 for avocado, $2 for double egg or bacon and then $3 extra for double egg and bacon (prices subject to change). The BBQ runs on both Saturday and Sunday mornings between 8am - 12pm and the rolls are best enjoyed with a takeaway coffee, sitting by the waterside watching the swans glide by. See here for details.

GreenHouse Coffee & Food Co can be found upstairs in the Canberra Centre, in the heart of the CBD. This shopping centre café is a breath of fresh air, where the coffee hits the spot, the breakfast options are plentiful and an outside verandah makes you feel like you are in a leafy greenhouse. Their bacon and egg roll at $13 has a tangy charred pepper chilli jam, slice of Cobram cheddar and soft ciabatta bun. The combination of all the flavours, particularly the punch of the chilli jam, makes this bacon and egg roll a favourite every time. This popular café is a collaboration between two Canberra coffee houses - Ona and Espresso Room - so you know the coffee is good too. The GreenHouse is the ideal way - and only way! - to start a day of shopping at the Canberra Centre. See here for details.

The Pedlar is a busy, modern café located in Campbell, just a short drive from the Australian War Memorial. This airy café is popular each morning with local residents and workers, all getting their takeaway coffees to take on the run, or to stay and enjoy the relaxed café and outside tables in the sun. Their bacon and egg roll costs $14 and is "fried egg and bacon and served in a soft bun with tomato relish". The relish and the soft bun in particular, have this bacon and egg roll as the perfect way to herald in the weekend. When trying to find The Pedlar , look for the simple "P" on the wall. See here for details.

Two Hands is a café located in the industrial suburb of Fyshwick, 10 minutes south of the city. This colourful takeaway shop and café is a popular spot to pick up a delicious coffee, juicy big burger and a bacon and egg roll to get you through the working day. Two Hands is only open between Monday to Friday, so this bacon and egg roll experience needs to be slotted in during the week. They offer a basic tangy bacon and egg roll for $7.50, however if you would like to take the guilt out of the experience and add a few greens, the Breakfast Burger is $11 - and a winner! This option is simply delicious, with avocado, tomato, lettuce and a surprising aioli sauce that brings it all together in a soft roll. See here for details.

Other options include The Cupping Room , Trev's at Dickson , Little Oink café or Frankies at Forde . If you are on the south side, check out Ona Coffee House in Fyshwick, Coffee on the Go at Calwell Shops and Common Grounds in Gowrie , to name a few.

How do you like your bacon and egg roll? Just a simple burger with just the basics, or something a little fancier? Do you like the yolk running down your hand, or is that too messy? Wherever you like to go and however you like to have it, one thing that we can all agree on is that we are spoilt for choice in the Capital. A bacon and egg roll in one hand and a coffee in the other - is there a better way to kick off a weekend?
