The calendar of events in the City of Casey is pretty full. One of the main summer events is the
Berwick Show , which puts on one of the largest cattle show in Victoria outside of the Royal Melbourne Show.
The venue of the Berwick Show has been
Akoonah Park since 1963, which speaks volumes for the consistency with which the show has been held. The first ever Berwick Show was actually held in 1856 in Cranbourne under its original name of Mornington Farmers' Society and this piece of historical information really marks the significance of the event for this region. This year, the Berwick Show will be held on 22 and 23 February at Akoonah Park, attracting large crowds over the weekend.
The main and traditional purpose of the show is the cattle exhibit which today also incorporates exhibits of horses, sheep, goats, alpacas, dogs, poultry, rabbits, etc. It is obvious that the show is put on for the animal lovers and those with agricultural and farming interests.
There are plenty of other activities spread out over the two days, which will include woodchop, arts/crafts, cooking, photography, charity fun run and more. For details of when each specific event/activity will be held, check the
program schedule .
The biggest attraction of the Show are the Saturday night fireworks which commence at 9pm.
The Horse events will be held on
10 March 2014 which will exclusively focus on horses and no other activities will be organised on that day.
No show is ever complete without entertainment, food stalls and children's activities, and Berwick Show will also have all these on offer. This is a ticketed event and
admission prices are nominal, where children under 10 enter free. The hours for Saturday are 9am to 10pm, with last entry at 9pm and for Sunday are 9am to 5pm.
