Berry Good Pickings

Hold your hats. Berry season is coming.

I love eating berries! I wonder if berries would make it into the top ten for things that make the world a better place. It certainly is an inspiration for the 1980's rock band, Poison, with their song Cherry Pie. I wonder if they had written that after they had gone to a u-pick berry farm. We can only hope. It was also Chuck Berry's surname and he did pretty well. Plus you can make jam, sauces and desserts from berries and I don't need to mention that they are good for us.

So in honor of the berry season that is upon us, I have prepared a list of some of the berry farms in Victoria that sell and/or let you come and pick berries until your heart is content. Oh and don't forget to play the Chubby Berries game. You know the one, where you compete with your fellow berry friends by stuffing in as many berries in your mouth and saying "Chubby Berries" until no longer possible. You will be crowned "The Berry King/Queen and hailed by all.

As fruit quantities and prices can vary, it is best to check the farms website or ring before arriving. All links are provided below. Bring cash as many farms do not have eftpos facilities. It can also get super hot out on the farms so you will need to bring plenty of water, a hat, sun cream and closed in shoes. Below you'll find berry farms for:
- Yarra Ranges (Outer east and north-east of Melbourne)
- Shire of Cardinia (Outer south-east of Melbourne)
- Mornington Peninsula (South-east of Melbourne)
- Geelong (South-west of Melbourne)
- Shire of Moorabool (Outer west of Melbourne)
- Gippsland (South-east Victoria)
