Follow the winding Berowra Waters Road off the Pacific Highway and cross Berowra Creek on the ferry and you will come across the
, a culinary destination that combines good food with complete immersion among the boats moored along this section of the waterway. I found out about the cafe through word of mouth and after spending a recent Saturday lunch here, I think it's a local secret that is definitely worth passing on.
The knows its attraction lies in its setting and it fully embraces the surroundings. While there are some seats inside, most of the tables are located outside. They are completely undercover and offer a view overlooking the boats, which seem so densely packed that surprisingly little of the water is actually visible, just a sea of white vessels against a background of trees. When I visited, all the seats outside were full, but there were still empty tables inside, so you shouldn't miss out.
I enjoyed the food here immensely. Perfectly complimenting the setting, most of the menu options feature various combinations of seafood, chips, salads and old fashioned hamburgers. I had the salmon steak and garden salad and was very happy with my choice. In fact, no-one I was eating with had anything bad to say about the food. We taste-tested each other's choices, and I ended up trying some of the Caesar salad, which I also enjoyed. By the end of the meal, every plate was spotless.
The is open seven days a week and if you live in the Hornsby area, it's worth making the trip out here. You can get to the cafe by boat, with Pittwater, Cowan Creek and the Hawkesbury not too far away. But for most of us, driving is the only option. There is a car park right next door which the cafe shares with the
Waterview Restaurant above it (there is also a much larger car park next to this one to cater for the boat ramp). You can enter the cafe through the bottom level of the car park. You don't just have to drive here from the direction of Berowra either. The Berowra Water Fish Cafe can also be reached through Arcadia.
