Barnardos Australia is one of the leading child protection charities in Australia and has a 130 year history of caring for unfortunate children. Barnardos is committed in their mission to end child abuse in Australia and believes every child deserves to be safe and protected.

Barnardos works with families and communities facing issues such as violence, poverty, substance abuse, mental illness and homelessness. Barnados has a simple aim- to keep children safe at home. When it is not safe for a child to remain with their birth family, Barnardos is always there to find the kids a new home through foster care and adoption.
The inaugural Barnardos Beach Bolt on Coogee Beach is a dynamic 1 mile run from Grant Reserve, the southern end of Coogee beach, and will see participants test themselves on the soft sand as they make their way along the beach towards Dunningham Reserve at the north end before testing themselves on the uphill stairs and sprinting to the finish line. This course is the only 1 mile race in Sydney which covers running on grass, pavement, stairs and sand. For a course map of the beach bolt, click here
This high-energised community event will bring people from all over Sydney and will showcase the beautiful Coogee Beach in all its winter glory. All proceeds from The Barnardos Beach Bolt will go directly to Barnardos Australia to help stop child abuse.
There is also a mini course for children under 8 years old, so the Barnardos Beach Bolt is definitely an event for the whole family. Held on Coogee beach, the children will take part in a 50m sprint on the sand. All entrants will also receive a participation ribbon - a great boost to young kids' self-esteem. There are also other ways you can get involved by becoming a volunteer for the event. The work for a volunteer includes:
Event Day: Registrations and Participant pack pick-up
Meet and Greet
The Bolt caters for people of all ages and fitness levels. The itinerary will include:
The Elite Race
The '000 Race', which will bring together our Emergency Services in a battle to be the best
The General Race, a walk or run for all age groups above 10 years
The 'Mini Bolt' – a shorter race especially for kids under 10 years of age
On registering, each participant will be automatically set up with an online fundraising page. The link will be sent out to you via an email after registration. This will give you access to your own personal page which you can update and use to inspire others with a story about why you are participating in the Bolt, post updates, images and videos, tell your social networks and ask others to help you make a real difference.
What are you waiting for? Get in your runners and challenge yourself in Australia's toughest mile, all for a good cause.
