Berlin Gastro Kitchen and Pool Bar offers fourth-floor panoramic views of mangroves on one side and the sunset on the other, but chances are you've driven past it without realising it was there.

Berlin Gastro Kitchen and Pool Bar
A modern restaurant with panoramic views

This rooftop pool and restaurant is hidden at the top of Krisna Oleh-Oleh on Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai, just a few kilometres from the airport. The building itself is hard to miss, but you'd never guess it had this spectacular rooftop experience awaiting you.

Whether you want to go souvenir shopping or not, the rooftop pool and bar are still worth a visit. There is no entry fee or minimum spend, as long as you purchase something from the menu. So, you could hang out for a few hours to work and just order a coffee, have a romantic meal with a great view, or bring the kids swimming and order some snacks to graze on.

Berlin Gastro Kitchen and Pool Bar, being located at the top of this building right on a very busy road, is surprisingly tranquil. You can't hear any of the traffic noise if you're by the pool, on the far side of the road. And even if you're seated on the side nearest the road, the music they play covers the noise of the traffic well enough.

Unfortunately it was cloudy on the day we visited, so there wasn't much of a sunset to enjoy. However, the view would be spectacular on a clearer day at sunset.

On the other side of the building, the infinity pool overlooks mangroves that stretch out as far as you can see. You can, by the way, explore these mangroves from the inside by visiting the nearby Mangrove Information Centre and taking a walk along the elevated paths they have built there.

The pool is large and 150m deep, so there's plenty of space to swim. It also has a ledge all along one side where you can sit and relax, as well as underwater stools and seating areas around the sunken bar. There is no kids pool or shallow area, except for the steps and ledges.

You are free to sit at one of the daybeds along the pool, which are all well shaded. Alternatively, there is plenty of seating at the tables inside the restaurant.

If you do swim, there is a shower room where you can shower and change afterwards. However, it's worth noting that no towels or toiletries are provided - so be sure to bring your own.

When it comes to food, the menu has a combination of Indonesian, Asian and Western dishes so there should be something for everyone. There is even a small kids' menu.

Unfortunately, when we visited there were a lot of menu items crossed out, and when we tried to order a pizza, they said they weren't available that day as the wood-fired oven wasn't set up.

We ended up with a tuna salad, chicken burger (in a pink beetroot bun), fish and chips, and loaded fries. All of these dishes were nicely presented and very tasty.

Accompanied by a couple of non-alcoholic drinks, our bill came to 367k (prices on the menu are excluding tax and service). This seemed quite reasonable for the experience we had and the amount of food we consumed between us. They do also have a selection of cocktails, liqueurs and beers available.

To add to this, the whole place was pretty quiet. Even on a Friday evening, there were about five other groups there by the time we left.

Check out Berlin Gastro Kitchen and Pool Bar if you want a place to enjoy drinks or a meal with great views, especially if you want to make use of the pool as well. And don't forget to pick up some souvenirs or homewares at Krisna on your way out.
