Something for everyone and their dog
Nestled off Bentley Drive in Holden Hill, behind the Holden Hill Community Centre and the Holden Hill Kindergarten, Bentley Reserve is a place that offers something for the whole family.

It is a wide grassed area - often used by kite flyers, model airplane enthusiasts and other sporting people - surrounded by all manner of fun things to do. The grassed area is also used several times during the week by fitness groups, ranging from a group from the local high school through to mothers trying to maintain their fitness levels.

Its main selling point is the large dog park at one end of the park. With a nice high fence, double gates and a variety of exercise options for the animals, this being one of the few dedicated dog playgrounds in the area means that there is hardly a time when it is not in use. However, according to the locals we spoke to, this does create some other problems. Some of the signage around the reserve does not make it clear where the dog playground is, and several owners let their dogs off the leash to run around anywhere in the park, not just in the dog playground. One resident said his young son had had balls stolen by dogs off leashes in the past. So this is something to be aware of.

Dog Playground

There is a reasonably sized playground, for children, surrounded by high fencing. Recently this has been covered by a huge shade cloth, which really makes it a playground worth checking out.

The playground also has a liberty swing available for use by those with restricted mobility.

There is a skate track along one side of the reserve. One local resident told us that it has been there for a few decades, and was one of the very first skate tracks in metropolitan Adelaide. It is not a skate park with half-pipes and jumps, but a track that runs down a hill in a slight quarter pipe configuration.

Public toilets are available most weekends (though, again, residents told us they are not often open during the week), and these are found near undercover eating areas with benches and tables and two barbecues, available for public use for free.

Tennis and basketball courts are also available for use by anyone at any time. The tennis nets are low fences, not actual nets, which means there is rarely an issue with the nets not being there.

The whole park is surrounded by a lot of trees and a walking or bike riding track. It is away from main roads, and there is plenty of off-road parking available, and the area is often the site for family picnics or parties.

In all, Bentley Reserve is a fun place to take the family, with things to do for people of all ages.
