It's about time the Brisbane craft beer revolution spread its wings to the southern suburbs. Sure, West End hipsters are well catered for but for beer geeks a bit further from the river, pickings are pretty slim. Until now.

The Bent Elbow bar has arrived in Stones Corner and it's making quite a beer splash with thirsty southsiders. While the new addition sits directly opposite the ever-enduring Stones Corner Hotel, it offers a far more intimate and homely setting.

The effortlessly unpretentious vibe is striking as you enter The Bent Elbow. A unique and ingenious indoor beer garden welcomes you, resplendent with artificial grass, outdoor furniture and hanging greenery. And it's all out of the elements so bad weather is never an obstacle.

Progress through to the table service dining area and enjoy more formal seating framed by the now obligatory exposed brickwork. For the voyeurs and master chefs, the open view kitchen offers a glimpse of life as a culinary mastermind.

The small but perfectly formed bar is stocked with a rotating range of 12 locally produced tap beers and ciders. No taste-challenged XXXX, but outstanding offerings from some of Brisbane's best brewers including Newstead Brewing, The Green Beacon and All In Brewing. A schooner will set you back somewhere around the $8 mark. The wine list also has a distinctly home-grown feel to please your palate.

Dining options range from nibbles, to pizza and pasta to steak and ribs. Nothing is offer $38 and most options are affordably priced at under $20. There's even a couple of desserts on offer to hit your sweet spot.

The crowd here is refreshingly diverse. Bearded students and first date couplings dine amongst carefree retirees, after-work suits and even a young family or two. There's no sense of the craft beer snobbiness or exclusivity of some tragically hip establishments.

Parking in Stones Corner can be a little tricky but let's face it, who wants to drive to a craft beer bar anyway? Public transport options abound and are definitely the way to go. Opening hours vary from Wednesday to Sunday.

The Bent Elbow completes a southside craft beer void that desperately needed filling. It's booming location, welcoming surrounds and commitment to promoting locally produced drinks make it a must visit for Brisbane locals looking for craft beer without pretension.
