See Woman in Gold and Help a Great Cause

Why not treat yourself to the recently released film Woman in Gold at the beautifully restored Capri Theatre? Woman in Gold is a compelling and emotional tale about one woman's fight for justice, and to recover a stolen painting after World War 2.

Join us for a glass of premium Temple Bruer wine and nibbles in the opulent Art Deco surroundings of the Capri theatre. Dress in period black and gold costume to be eligible to win a prize, and listen to the second largest theatre organ in Australia play before the film starts.

The benefit film night is to support the Environmental Defenders Office, South Australia (EDO), an independent not-for-profit community legal centre. With the environment increasingly under threat, mining and other vested interests are getting away with poorly considered decisions that impact our way of life. And the Government is doing little to stop them.

The EDO are not just reactive to existing environmental threats. They pro-actively monitor new legislation and announcements to assess future threats to our natural heritage, lodging submissions, and critiquing proposed changes. The EDO also provides environmental and planning advice to groups and individuals - a vital service in our democratic society.

Some of the recent areas that the EDO have been involved with in South Australia include fracking, planning legislation changes, protecting our water resources from mining, noise pollution, and marine protection. Without EDO's involvement, our environment would be in a much poorer state today - find out why here.

Until recently, the EDO had received federal government funding. Clearly, they have been too successful in protecting the environment, because last year the government stopped all funding for EDO's around Australia. The EDO now relies on you and on community groups for their funding, and has been struggling by on a month by month basis.

The Woman in Gold film night will bring much needed financial relief to the Environmental Defenders Office, but if you can't make it, you can still donate to keep this important service operational in South Australia. Alternatively, buy tickets online for friends, family as a gift.

The evening at the Capri Theatre starts from 5.15pm on Saturday, June 6, when the historic Wurlitzer organ starts playing. Drinks and nibbles are available from 5.30pm, with the movie starting at 6.30pm. There will also be a raffle and silent auction on the night, so bring some spare cash to make a bid to support a great cause.

Tickets cost $25 each and can be purchased online. For more information, see the Environmental Defenders Office website, or the Facebook event page.

Just found this article and info after the event. Never mind, I saw the film yesterday and it is well worth seeking out. The art work that inspired the movie 'Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer 1' was just named one of the 100 greatest paintings in NYC. I must go to New York!
