The popular Strategem Bendigo Winemakers Festival returns on Saturday 7th May 2016 in the historic garden setting of Rosalind Park in Central Bendigo.
For 13 years, this iconic showcase of Bendigo's local wineries and regional food producers was held in Castlemaine Gardens on Easter Sunday, but organisers have opted to change the venue and date so more patrons have the opportunity to soak up the ambience and history of Bendigo.
Come and enjoy a leisurely Autumn afternoon sampling hand-crafted red and white wines and feasting on delicious regional food in the heart of Bendigo. There will also be a great live entertainment program and for the first time, interactive wine and food masterclasses to partake in.
"The Strategem Bendigo Winemakers Festival will be the ultimate pop-up cellar door as patrons taste the flavours of the region from more than 15 local wineries and 10 regional food producers" said Bendigo Winegrowers Association President, Wes Vine.
The event is held in a family-friendly atmosphere and throughout the day, you can meet 15 winemakers and hear their winemaking stories.
You'll also have the chance to sample the fully-flavoured Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon wine varieties the region is known and celebrated for, as well as other local varieties such as Merlot, Tempranillo, Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Pinot Noir, Semillon, Riesling, Chardonnay and Sparkling.
And if you find something you like, you can purchase take home bottles at cellar door prices!
Complementing the impressive wine showcase is a handpicked selection of delectable regional foods, as well as live entertainment for all ages.
Highlights include The Mockbells with their repertoire of Jump/Jazz Blues and Swing, with a bit of Latin thrown into the mix and a Jazz Duo, who are sure to add to the vibrant and relaxed festival ambience.
This year also sees the introduction of enlightening wine and food masterclasses where patrons can learn about the winemaking process, as well as great wine and food matches.
"We encourage patrons to bring along the picnic rug, relax and enjoy the day" said Wes Vine.
With Rosalind Park within walking distance from Bendigo Train Station, the Bendigo Winemakers Festival is easily accessible for event-goers travelling from Melbourne. It's also worth noting that the Bendigo Street Festival 2016 - Autumn Edition will also be held on Saturday 7th May 2016 in Bendigo CBD and the blockbuster Marilyn Monroe Exhibition is also open nearby at Bendigo Art Gallery.
