In Victoria there is no surer sign that spring is in the air than the rolling out of country racing programs and few country tracks put on a better event then Benalla Racing Club.
Country race days are staged right around the nation and in a variety of conditions. Benalla is right up there with the best of them.
Benalla's spring season kicks off on Monday 4th September with the Techwool Trading Farmers Day Out, a 9-event program with gates opening at 10 AM.
This is followed on Friday 29th September with the running of the bet365 Benalla Gold Cup over a distance of 2046 metres, the last event on a 9-race card of first-class country racing. Gates open at 11 AM.
Staged on AFL Grand Final eve the Benalla Gold Cup is a great opportunity for racegoers to get out of town and enjoy a long-weekend in Thoroughbred Country.
Country courses are often a testing ground for Thoroughbreds destined for bigger things on major city tracks.
General Admission tickets cost $12, pre-paid admission to the Benalla Gold Cup costs $15 and there are ticketing and entertainment packages available to suit every taste and wallet. Go to the website www.country.racing.com/benalla for full details.
Just as much hard work goes into turning out a winner in the country as it does at any city track.
Benalla Race Course is located at 5835 Midland Highway, Benalla, 214 Kilometres northeast of Melbourne, about a 2.5-hour drive via the Hume Freeway.
VLine operate regular services from Melbourne Southern Cross to Benalla Railway Station, just 1-Kilometre from the race track.
Will I see you at Benalla Racecourse this September?
