Event:
One of the best ways to relieve the spirit of summer
Catch a glimpse of summer's final moments - its long, sunshine filled days and the clear skies of the balmy evenings in the beginning of autumn by attending the inaugural Ben and Jerry's Open Air Cinemas in Perth, after its hugely successful seasons in other states as it tours the nation.

Ben and Jerry's Open Air Cinemas is the best way to see summer out for the year, and will be screening from Sunday 16 March to Sunday 13 April. The outdoor cinema is located on the picturesque Riverside Drive, on the corner of Plain Street. The program incorporates a great mix of recent blockbuster releases and classic movies, with the line-up featuring new releases and different genres such as action flicks, comedies, thrillers, dramas, sci-fi, documentaries and much more. Click here to view the program and movie schedules and to purchase tickets for the session.

The cinema has a 'Music by Day, Movies by Night' approach, featuring live music, guest appearances by musicians and local DJ's playing tunes as the sun sets before the movies start screening. Get there earlier to soak in the great atmosphere and cool breeze right next to the river while enjoying some gourmet food and drinks before settling in for a movie under the stars.

Food and drinks
Pizzas, salads, desserts, full meal options and essential movie snacks are available for purchase, and not surprisingly, so is a whole range of Ben & Jerry's famous ice cream. If you prefer to pack your own picnic, be aware that patrons are not allowed to bring any beverages as the event is a fully licensed venue. There will be a bar at the outdoor cinema stocked with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to purchase, as well as free water. Seating arrangement is unreserved, so go early to secure yourself a good spot.

Sundae Session

In addition to the weeknight screenings, the cinema's Sundae Sessions will take on a festival atmosphere every Sunday from 5pm. This will be a dedicated live music event that goes into the sunset, showcasing tunes from local bands and the opportunity to participate in crazy lawn games. If that isn't enticing enough, moviegoers will also be digging into free Ben & Jerry's ice cream!

To celebrate, the launch of the cinema's very first movie season in Perth will be a Opening Night Charity Sundae Session, featuring Van She, music acts, prizes, giveaways, games, free ice cream, goodie bags to take home and a screening of the award winning American Hustle to start the season with a bang. Set to be the biggest night on the program, the first Sundae Session will take place on Sunday 16 March with gates opening at 5pm.

Ben and Jerry's Open Air Cinema have partnered up with WWF, so all proceeds from this event's ticket sales will go towards their work with protecting Australia's Great Barrier Reef and all its species. There will also be free bean bag lounges and deck chairs for hire for this one night only, but stock is limited so it would be a wise move to get down early as it is a first in, best dressed policy. The launch nights are always a big sell out so get in quick and purchase your tickets here to join in the celebrations - you might even end up on MTV!

Prices
Tickets for normal movie screenings start at $17 online plus a booking fee or $22 at the gate. Star Class tickets get you reserved prime seats, bean bag and blanket hire, ice cream as well as a glass of Rekorderlig or non-alcoholic beverage and are priced higher at $40 online or $45 at the gate. Get another 3 friends together and save some money with 4 tickets for $55, which are only available with online bookings.

Flicks 4 Phones

Virgin Mobile are also running a Flicks 4 Phones campaign for their customers, which involves recycling your old phone and getting free double movie passes in return. This is limited, so jump on their website to see how to take up this opportunity.

Take note that the Open Air Cinemas are a licensed 18 + event and the venue includes a fully licensed bar, however under 18's will be permitted if accompanied by a responsible adult.
