It's back. The annual Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day is on Tuesday 9th April 2019. And it is all over Australia.
Ben & Jerry's have held Free Cone Days as a way to give back to their customers since 1979 and give out over a million of free scoops of ice cream across the globe. (Yes, it's a worldwide event). This year, once again, they will be scooping out the funkiest, chunkiest flavours - for FREE.
The store is known for its innovative names for its ice cream flavours such as New York Super Fudge, Coffee Coffee Buzz Buzz Buzz and the Tonight Dough. For a list of their icecreams click here.
Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day has quite a history as it has been running since 1979. It was started by, you guessed it, Ben and Jerry, as in Ben Cohan and Jerry Greenfield. They started the business in a renovated gas station in Burlington, Vermont in the States and saw the free cone day as a way of thanking everyone for their support on their first year of successful business.
So that is 40 years of free ice cream days. Just think how much that has cost the company since it became a worldwide entity. The store does keep an eye our for antics.
They noted that on Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day History - 2012 a scandal broke out in Perth when two people were caught trying to cut the line. The situation was diffused when they apologised and high-fived everyone on their walk to the back.
Ben & Jerry's is known as an ethical company with an all-important B grading . This relates to all kinds of issues including how they treat their staff, source their ingredients and support causes. The only restaurant I know of in Australia that has this grading is Red Gum BBQ on the Mornington Peninsula, Red Hill.
There are absolutely no strings attached in order to get your free cone and there's no purchase necessary. To find your local store, click here.
