Many of Ben-Hur's years are spent in slavery after being falsely accused of a crime amid the unrest in Jerusalem. Through many trials and tribulations, Ben-Hur serves his sentence as a slave on a galley ship. He manages to earn his freedom and has the chance to compete against his betrayer in a violent chariot match. An encounter with Jesus Christ and his disciples serves as a revelation that instills in him the values of mercy and compassion. He is faced with a choice about whether to choose revenge or find forgiveness in his heart.

Directed by Timur Bekmambetov and written by Keith Clarke and John Ridley, the quasi-biblical rendition of the original novel is a refreshing take on this historical tale. The forceful personal conflicts hook the viewer and add credence to the moral message of the story. Expect nail-biting action scenes that are brutal yet artistic, all delivered in a in contemporary tone. Watch the trailer here.

Starring: Jack Huston, Toby Kebbell, Nazanin Boniadi, Morgan Freeman, Rodrigo Santoro, Sofia Black D'Elia, Ayelet
