Many of Ben-Hur's years are spent in slavery after being falsely accused of a crime amid the unrest in Jerusalem. Through many trials and tribulations, Ben-Hur serves his sentence as a slave on a galley ship. He manages to earn his freedom and has the chance to compete against his betrayer in a violent chariot match. An encounter with Jesus Christ and his disciples serves as a revelation that instills in him the values of mercy and compassion.
