My family had been planning to try this place since we moved to the area and when we finally did we spent half the meal kicking ourselves for not coming sooner. This place ticks all the boxes for atmosphere, service, child friendliness, price, quality and taste. Oh My God, taste.

Let's get started with the praise.

The is right next to, and actually connected to, the Belvedere hotel, right across the road from Bramble Bay. The seabirds and the yachts in the harbour can be watched from the great open deck while you eat. The décor is simple seaside, but very comfy with good chairs and long, wide tables (no fighting for space at these tables). There is ample space and it has an open shed feel, which is very nice for this sort of place. There are three service areas, the restaurant, bar and café, which was a little annoying as we wanted things from each so had to visit all three to sort out our complete order, but it does mean that everyone with you has plenty of options.

Service seems to cop a lot of flack these days unless people are bubbly and over the top. I found the service staff here very professional and amenable to special requests, especially as the last time we were there we went with a party of 50, as well as being helpful and attentive when needed, but did not hang around when not needed. My idea of excellent service staff.

The place gets a huge win for their family friendlyness too. The staff treated our kids like customers instead of trying too hard with them or treating them as if they were in the way, and brought out colouring books and stickers for them while we looked at the menu (at last a chance to review a menu in peace). Unfortunately the kids area was closed for upgrades the first time we went, but the kids still found plenty to do and their meals were free due to the inconvenience. Last time we went the area was open and the kids had an even better time.

The price is around the $30 mark for most main meals, so not cheap eats, but the size was good and the quality exceptional. There is also not a huge choice but I often find this means quality over quantity and that is certainly the case here. Between us we had just about everything on the menu. The steaks were cooked exactly as everyone requested, the seafood parcel was the favourite of the day with loads of fresh seafood in a good sized parcel and the sandcrab morney was also delish as were the lamb shank and fish of the day specials. The standouts were the whole mud crab and the Big Artie, named for local legend Arthut Beatson, both of which hover around the $45 mark BUT the crab was sensational and the Big Artie is a full 1kg of rump steak. The kids meals were standard kids meals but with fresh fish rather than fish fingers and at only $8.50.

I would give this place a 9/10 after having a family meal for 4 there and hosting a party for over 50. Try it for yourself.
