Community Spirit Enjoyed @ Belmont Community Garden
The Belmont Community Growers are a group of neighbours forming friendships while working together on community projects/gardens in their local area. The Group usually meet on the first Sunday of each month at Wilson Park, which is situated behind the Rivervale Community Centre. However, due to the current coronavirus outbreak, the next meeting scheduled for April has been cancelled until further notice.
To keep up to date or wish to join this Group, you can do so by visiting their website or if you would like to ask a question before joining, this can also be done by visiting the site and sending your query to the growers. Annual membership fees are $20 for Adults, $10 for Concession Holders, $40 for Families and $50 for Organisations.
The benefits of a community group such as this are plentiful as not only do you get the opportunity to grow affordable, fresh and organic food, you can also learn valuable skills/tips from the experts and other gardeners. The group is all about promoting nutrition and sustainability in opposition to our fast society of quick microwave meals and takeaway. Bringing young families into the group is an excellent way to teach our kids how to live a healthy life while enjoying the outdoors.
Currently, there is significant space in the garden beds so, Sandra will be going down to check on the produce and plant some broad beans for the coming cooler months. Weekly checks are still being made; but if you are on the roster and prefer not to be, please let Sandra or Janet know.
Community Gardening is more than just planting, it is about being part of a growing community family. For more information, please email email@example.com or call Sandra on 08 9361 6638.
