The Belmont Community Growers Inc invites you to come along to a Meet and Greet day on Sunday 30 April from 10 am till noon at Wilson Park on the corner of Cambell Street and Kooyong Road, Rivervale (behind the Rivervale Community Centre).

The vision for the Community Growers group is in "growing connections and friendships in the City of Belmont by creating community garden - a place to grow, learn and share together".

Many towns and cities are establishing community gardens especially those close to main cities where often apartment dwellers or those downsizing have had to forego a larger garden and just miss the contentment of tending their garden and eating fresh healthy herbs, fruit and veggies they have produced themselves. Many people become isolated in larger cities but working together on activities that build friendships, enhance the community and ease the budget could be just the "bee's knees".

Belmont Community Growers believe that if you would like to meet neighbours, make new friends, like to work with others to produce fruit and vegetables and to grow a community and enhance your suburb then this is the group for you. So come along your family and friends, your chair, picnic blanket, morning tea to share and meet at Wilson Park behind the Rivervale Community Centre. Bring any extra plants or seeds to share if you wish as well as your enthusiasm.

The gardening group has been a while in the making and has its own website www.communitygrowers.org and have set up a Facebook page at www.facebook.com/communitygrowers.org. Members have also networked with local political parties, Belmont City Council and retail outlets such as Bunnings in Belmont to help set up the garden with some of the ground work being prepared this week.

The meeting on Sunday is a germinal session where you will be able to express ideas and share ideas to help in ensuring the success of this community garden. It is a great opportunity to ask that gardening question that may have been worrying you for a while as there will be a resident expert or "Garden Dr" there to offer unlimited free advice.

For more information on the Meet and Greet day or to enquire about membership to the Belmont Community Growers Inc please contact Sandra Maynard on 9361 6638 or Steven Webster on 0431 310 330.
