If ever there was a place to utter Darryl Kerrigan's famous words from
The Castle, "
How's the serenity?", it is here, at the Bellbird Echo Café.
Situated in the foothills of the Blue Mountains at Kurrajong, amongst rolling green hills, the fresh mountain air and the distinctive call of the bellbirds, you feel a world away from the city.
If you are travelling to the mountains along the Bells Line of Road, the Bellbird Echo Café. is a welcome rest stop. Despite the busy road out the front, you will find tranquility in the café or in the leafy back garden.
Choosing from the extensive menu is difficult as it all sounds so good - sandwiches, soup, wraps, melts, burgers or even chicken, salmon or steak. There is also a selection of homemade cakes or Devonshire tea on offer.
For my Sunday lunch I chose a vegetarian wrap which consisted of a tasty combination of marinated vegetables, basil pesto, spanish onion, tomato & feta cheese and served with a generous side salad.
My fellow guests enjoyed a BLT on Turkish bread, the ploughman's lunch and a pumpkin. bacon & camembert tart from the Specials menu.
The kids menu was limited to either nuggets & chips or sausage & chips but my children were happy to order from the regular menu.
The garden was a lovely spot to eat with pretty views, plenty of shade and the smell of the citrus trees in the air. It was not too crowded or busy on the day we visited. If the weather does not permit outdoor dining there is a good sized restaurant inside.
Everyone enjoyed their meals and we finished with a coffee afterwards. The Bellbird Echo Café is located at 984 Bells Line of Road, Kurrajong Hills. Drop in some time, relax and savour the serenity.
