Great prices, head massages and paleo treats
Izabela and Iona the new owners of Bella in Hawthorn East
When two sisters-in-laws with flare and passion go into business they create a work of art.
Iona and Izabela have just opened up a salon in the Fernwood complex in Hawthorn East. They both came from Romania, Iona a few years ago and Izabela only a few months ago. "In Romania there is a tendency for everyone to do things for themselves." says Iona.
The girls' lucky fish. May it bring them lots of luck.
So when they needed to remodel their new salon, they enlisted the help of their husbands as well as scouring the internet for the most beautiful and meaningful objects they could find. The result is a stunning makeover —more classic baroque with a touch of shabby chic than the usual industrial clinical look that dominates today's salons.
The girls found the perfect photo of a startling and glitzy model that they had blown-up and mounted on canvas to put on their back wall. They put their lucky fish, coloured gold and red, on a shelf beside her.
They searched for the perfect plush red velvet chairs, and gold rimmed mirrors and even spray painted old furniture silver and added new knobs to add to the chic look.
As they are in the same complex as Fernwood (an all female gym) they have offered all members a free blow dry—an offer they would be crazy not to take up. They did a letter box drop with vouchers and ramped up their Facebook and other social media.
I had the lovely and relaxing experience of having my hair washed and blow-dried by Izabela, a talented hairdresser with over 15 years of European hairdressing experience.
First off, they use Aveda products that smell divine and have no nasty chemicals. Then there is the voluptuous head massage where you feel you are floating away to another space. And as my head space is so full I really appreciated this.
Izabela obviously takes great pride in her work as you can tell from the photos below. I like the fact that the blow dry wasn't overly time consuming (who has such great lumps of time these days) but was very natural and professionally perfect.
We both had smiles on our face at the end of the experience. Me because of my glossy smooth locks and Izabela because of the perfect "look" she had created.
What I also loved about this salon are the healthy snacks. You won't miss out on your latte while your hair is being done, but the young women also offer complimentary healthy Paleo treats such as glasses of coconut water and homemade coco date balls. (Iona who follows the Paleo way of eating makes these delightful treats.)
If you are pushed for time you can also get your nails done in the same sitting as a nail technician from SNS nails, is on the same floor, and will send someone over. Certainly another time saver and a wonderful way to feel fully pampered.
This Fernwood centre seems to have it all. In fact some women go to their early morning gym session, then spend the rest of the afternoon having a massage, their hair done at Bella as well as their nails. A one stop beauty shop.
Because of my unruly mop, that I cannot tame at home, I am always on the look out for cheaper places to get my hair blow dried.
You can download a voucher here from their website so that blow-blowaves are only around $25. With many places charging well over $50 this is a huge saving.
This is a thoroughly lovely, relaxing and beautiful hairdressers. I would thoroughly recommend their services. Not only for some beautiful hairstyling, the use of health products on your locks, and in your tum but because it is great to see these young women starting up a business with such passion, flare and finesse.
