Escape to the Belgrave South Community Market (Gilmore Court, Belgrave South) from 10am to 2.30pm for a touch of warmth on a chilly morning. Warm and welcoming stall holders, delicious food to warm the cockles of your heart, and activities to keep the kiddies warm like the gorgeous ponies they can ride is what this market is all about.
Let's get to the important stuff first. That'll be food of course. Who doesn't want hot and yum comfort food? MrDuk is a staple at this market with his lovely pies and tarts that are not just wonderful to look at, but tasty as well.
You're also bound to be won over by Rockabilly Kitchen's popular 17 hours cooked (old American recipe) roast in a roll. Her lemon slices are to die for if you like something a little tart and you'll find an assortment of slices to go with that hot cuppa. Check out her jams, lemon curd and more. As you can see, the winter weather brings out the foodie in me.
If you're lucky, Ticklebelly Larder Homestyle Relishes & Preserves will bring their freshly made orange and cointreau marmalade. There's a lot more flavours on board. Using family recipes that have been handed down through the generations, sometimes these recipes are reinvented to create something new. All ingredients used are either homegrown or sourced locally direct from the farmers, resulting in top quality unique flavours.

I cannot tell you how much I adore The Calico Co's beautifully handmade one of a kind dolls. I absolutely love her Raggedy Ann and Andy; nostalgic of times gone by. It's made with lots of love from scratch with hand painted features and hand sewn clothing. Dolls can even be made to order in any colour combinations, matching hair and eye colour to your favourite little girl.
Check out the market's Event Page to get a heads-up of which other stall holders are going to be there. Stalls like Orna's Choc Rocks for that chocolate fix. Tenae Lily for all your fashion needs. Roselets Designs for whimsical fascinators, and more. Jewellery, soy candles, sacred charms, aprons, soaps, sugar scrubs, laundry products, black forest mini cheese cakes (thought I'd throw that one in) and not forgetting to mention Wildwood Herbals.
You'll find handmade herbal tinctures, organic and wildcrafted herbal salves, perfumes and beauty products for your skin. She also has lovely chai teas and much more. Like me, you'll probably find her jars of beautifully packaged herbal goods interesting to look at and learn about. They're lovingly created in the Dandenong Ranges of Victoria.
Johnny D the magician & an empty box waiting for magic to happen
However that's not all folks. There are many more stall holders carrying a huge variety of products. There'll even be a face painter to keep the kids happy. Why not do something completely random and childlike and have your face painted too. Don't forget Haydi's Pet Nanny Service will be supplying the pony rides for the kiddies and Johnny D - Be Magical will be there performing his magic tricks.
What would be even more magical is if you'd spare a thought for those less fortunate who live without the comfort of warm beds and heating. For this Winterfest market, it would be appreciated if you could bring along your 'clean' spare unwanted blankets, gloves, scarves, beanies, throws; anything that'll keep a human being warm, and place them in a charity box in the foyer. This collection will be delivered to the Father Bob Maguire Foundation to be put to good use. Have a Happy Winterfest Market Day!
