You can easily go by public transport to Belgrave. Burwood Highway will be closed and parking will be very limited as there are thousands of people who attend this function each year.
Belgrave Lantern Parade has been "warming the heart of Belgrave" each Winter Solstice every year for the last 13 years. The event is now the premier event and the highlight of the winter season for the community. It brings light to the darkness and announces the coming of the spring season.
You can watch the event from the side of the road or join in the parade as they meander down the streets. This year, organisers would love to see more people carrying lanterns and thinking outside the box. This could be by making or buying some creative/different illuminated costumes, props, musical instruments and of course, lanterns! Maybe you can let your imagination run wild and come up with some beauties!
You are welcome to come to one of their lantern making workshops in June. Here you will learn to make a lantern and your imagination can take it from there. There will be lantern workshops on 8th, 10th and 15th June and you can read about these at this Facebook page. This should be a fun workshop!
Hayes Carpark will become the Village and there will be some local food vendors there. There will also be campfires to keep you warm, as well as musicians, circus performances and more!
P.S Hayes Carpark will be closed on the day to set up the magical community village space so please don't park there!)
Together, why not gather to celebrate "community and friends by transforming Belgrave into a festival of light."
This is another event you need to mark down in your diary as it will be fun watching all those lights!
