Finding a comfortable, friendly and reasonably priced placed to stay when you are driving down from Queensland to Melbourne can be a bit tricky. However, from all the places that I did stay, the Belconnen Premier Inn in Canberra stood out the most and was one of my favourite accommodation experiences.
I am a fairly fussy hotel connoisseur and meeting my standards of comfort and quality, whether luxury or budget accommodation, can be quite a feat. This hotel for the most part ticked lots of my boxes. Travelling with family we were looking for hotels and motels that were firstly affordable as well as being pleasant. I felt that this accommodation succeeded on having a clean room; spacious and tidy bathroom; great room service; and excellent staff members.
When we walked into this establishment we were greeted with genuine smiles and when we asked for directions to the nearest bus stop was given clear directions (with even a cautionary note that if I, a young woman, was walking back late in the evening that the walk was generally considered safe, but should I want to err on the side of caution, take a taxi).
As it was I did not have a late night and instead tucked into delicious and decently priced room service food. I enjoyed some scrumptious quesadillas as my main and spoiled myself with a rich and dreamy cheesecake that was drizzled with an addictive
raspberry sauce. I had to ask when I got back if I was allowed a glass of wine or champagne in the room or whether I had to order a whole bottle, and was most graciously assured that to the room was fine. Suffice to say, I was quite cosy and well fed in my room watching late night movies.
The only drawbacks to our stay included: my overhead bed light being out, the salsa with the corn chips was poured on top (and would have preferred it being in a side dish) and the chicken in the quesadilla was a bit fatty (but again, overall the food was very tasty).

The breakfast was average, but again the service was nice. On offer was continental or cooked items, but neither seemed particularly remarkable. The room service dinner and dessert menu had been much more appealing . Also, I apologise to the man who provided me with all the information and polite service, I think he was the manager, but not entirely sure and I did not catch his name. Regardless, all the staff were approachable and we enjoyed our stay. I felt we got what we paid for and would be happy to stay there again if going back to Canberra in the future.
