A cosy, corner-stop café in Croydon
Located at the quieter end of Main Street in Croydon is a cosy, corner-stop café offering big tastes and good coffee. Bekendales is small, but its presence in Croydon has built an honest reputation that attracts loyal and local patronage.

Flanked by Main and Lacey Streets, this white-washed cornerstone was once part of the area's historic State Bank. Now, Bekendales offers a simple and fresh menu for breakfast and lunch. Cosmopolitan meals range in flavours and textures, offering many choices for those who may possess an indecisive streak.

A devilish serve of French toast topped with poached rhubarb, vanilla ricotta, berries and maple syrup, partnered by a freshly made cappuccino, is a decadent start to any slow weekend. For the savoury pundits, home-made baked beans with bacon and chorizo married with extras like egg and avocado on the side is another filling option. Freshly baked muffins, cakes and vanilla slices sit ready behind glass waiting to be taken home for a sweet afternoon treat.

The menu is modern and ever-revolving, yet Bekendales oozes a country store feel. Its white walls are anointed with vintage frames while a sturdy sleeper bench-top by the window is dressed with dainty pot plants, books and newspapers. Sleek dining furniture waits for early risers and diners. Oriental umbrellas hang from the ceiling and trinkets are perched high on shelves. Specials are scribbled onto a body-height blackboard and change daily.

The name Bekendales was coined by and born from proprietors, Bek and Dale, who are two of the smiling faces behind the counter. Customers always receive a warm welcome and quick, tentative service; Dale is more than willing to start up friendly conversation. Though, it's best to arrive early to avoid missing out on a table or a seat at the bench. A couple of tables are available outside, but are best enjoyed in the sunshine.

Bekendales is a busy hub for regulars and those onto a good thing, offering a more peaceful part of Main Street for customers to enjoy. Bekendales is open for breakfast and lunch throughout the week.
