Melbourne's cultural icon Mirka Mora is being celebrated in an exhibition at the Immigration Museum. Being Mirka is currently on display until 30 September, 2021.
Mirka Mora was a French-born Australian visual artist and cultural figure who contributed significantly to the development of contemporary art in Australia. Her media included drawing, painting, sculpture and mosaic. Having survived the Holocaust, Mora migrated to Australia in 1951 and settled in Melbourne.
Being Mirka presents objects from her Richmond studio to her journey to be one of this city's iconic residents. The exhibition includes clothing, painting tools and equipment, sewing and embroidery material and equipment, an unfinished artwork, miniature dolls, toys and furniture.
In response to COVID-19, the Immigration Museum has introduced protocols to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of visitors, staff and volunteers at the exhibition.
