I would not advise you to read Behind Closed Doors by B.A.Paris for fun, on the train or on the beach. This book is not for light reading and is not for faint-hearted. And, to think of it, I do not think this book is for men... for any men.

You'd have to be strong, resilient, content. You'd have to be a fighter and survivor or protector and defender at your very core to handle a book like this one.

Goodreads gave it the following preview:
%%
Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace: he has looks and wealth, she has charm and elegance. You'd like to get to know Grace better. But it's difficult because you realise Jack and Grace are never apart. Some might call this true love.

Picture this: a dinner party at their perfect home, the conversation and wine flowing. They appear to be in their element while entertaining. And Grace's friends are eager to reciprocate with lunch the following week. Grace wants to go but knows she never will. Her friends call—so why doesn't Grace ever answer the phone? And how can she cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim?

And why are there bars on one of the bedroom windows?

The perfect marriage? Or the perfect lie?%%

What can I say without revealing too much of a story? If you see the darkness and evil from the very first pages of the novel, it is either the author is so very good at her craft or it is because you've been there yourself - behind closed doors.

Read this book to realise you are not alone

Read this book to realise they are weak and you are strong

Read this book to see that they are all the same: small, damaged, pitiful and so very evil.

Read this book to really, finally come to terms with the truth that you can't change anyone, you can only change your own situation.

Read this book to see that a human is capable of so much, both good and evil

Read this book to realise and remember that a human is an animal - the rest is a matter of environment.
