'
Before I Die ' is a worldwide art project involving participation from the public. It invites members of the public to reflect on their lives, contemplate death and share their particular aspirations on a created wall. Globally, over 2000 walls have been created in 76 countries and stencilled in 38 languages. Each wall cultivates personal examination and restores life's perspective in view of death. Each wall reveals people's joys, desires, struggles and worries.
In Adelaide, a 'Before I Die' wall has been created at Trinity City Church on North Terrace. You are invited to participate by writing your aspirations on it.
The
original wall was created by Taiwanese-American artist
Candy Chang after losing a loved one. She painted the wall on the side of an abandoned house in her neighbourhood in New Orleans with chalkboard paint. She then stencilled the sentence "Before I die I want to __________". Within a day neighbours had stopped, reflected on life and chalked their aspirations on the wall. The wall was quickly covered in colourful chalk.
If you would like to participate in
Adelaide's 'Before I Die' wall , then head to 87 North Terrace in the city and write your aspirations.
