Wanna check out some awesome live music outside of the Valley or West End? Then try at Upper Roma Street, Brisbane. This intimate little venue is dedicated to promoting Aussie talent, serving up the likes of Husky, Gin Club, Josh Pyke, Giants of Science, plus loads of local acts.

Whether you're into indie, blues or even rockabilly... 's got you covered. Its understated shop front is located amid a strip of backpacker joints but have no misconception that is only for backpackers. Drawing a fairly diverse crowd, the venue is also frequented by many locals keen to enjoy cracking good tunes.

With its brick wall interior and dingy lighting, the venue has a very industrial, grungy feel. The long and narrow venue has a few scattered tables and stools so you'll need to get in early for a seat, otherwise its standing room only. An industrial fan is perched above the dance floor which is perfect for when the place gets crowded and a little steamy. A comfortable modular lounge wraps its way around the back section of the bar away from the stage. There's also an upstairs mezzanine level just like the Tivoli. Out front is a ground-floor balcony with single-file seating that usually gets crammed with smokers, so it isn't uncommon for punters to spill out onto the footpath when there are large crowds.

Drink prices are pretty standard. You can get a mixed spirit for $7 and a beer for around $5. The only thumbs down for this place is that spirits and beers on-tap are served in plastic cups – drinking from glass just seems to taste so much better.
