Where is ?

As part of the Yarralumla shops, is a short 10 minute drive from Canberra's CBD on the other side of Lake Burley Griffin - it's a great place for an early morning coffee before work, as is open from 7am six days a week. There is parking available in a parking lot directly in front of the cafe itself. Otherwise, there is ample street parking available in adjacent streets surrounding the cafe - just keep an eye out for any signs marking parking restrictions during business hours. For public transport users, is conveniently located close to Novar St bus stop, which is directly opposite the Yarralumla shops.

What is the ambience of like?

When Eddy and I first arrived at , we were pleasantly surprised by how busy the little corner cafe was, especially considering it was a weekday morning. The majority of the customers were dressed in work attire, with several avid cyclists in the mix of customers too. The hustle and bustle that came from having so many customers in one place at the same time was in stark contrast to the peaceful and relaxing ambience that radiated from . There is both indoor and outdoor seating to choose from - the indoor seating appeared busier with more people opting to seat inside, whereas the outdoor seating was more quiet and, with shady trees providing shelter from the sun, gave off a feeling of natural serenity.

Note: In case you're wondering why looks quite 'empty' (in regards to customers) in the photos, it's because I waited until most people had left before I paid for my order and took the photos, so that I wouldn't disrupt the other patrons at the cafe.

What food does serve?

have my favourite 'all day breakfast menu' with a range of food options at reasonable prices - all menu items cost less than $20, even the 'Not Too Big' Big Breakfast which was priced at $18.50. Note: The 'Not Too Big' Big Breakfast was definitely 'big'! One menu item that caught my eye as it is not frequently seen in your average cafe was 'Beess Superfood Porridge', a porridge with fresh berries and bananas. In addition to the opportunity to build your own 'big breakfast' with a wide variety of breakfast sides options, the 'all day breakfast' menu also offer gluten free and vegan options, effectively catering for a larger group of consumers.

There is also a lunch menu offering extra options alongside the 'all day breakfast' menu, from 11:45am to 2:30pm. The options on this menu again serve a wide variety of food options, all priced under $20 (with the exception of the 'Crispy Chilli Salt & Pepper Calamari' which is priced at $20.50), with vegan and gluten free options available too. Don't forget to keep an eye out for their daily specials, in addition to the freshly baked goodies beautifully displayed at the kitchen counter!

also have housemade gourmet jams available for purchase, for just $12 - there are 3 different flavours:
  • Strawberry and rhubarb
  • Marmalade
  • Berry

  • What drink options are available at ?

have an extensive range of drink options available, with one menu page dedicated to cold drinks, and the other to hot drinks. Their cold drinks menu include all the standard drinks (e.g. milkshakes, smoothies, soft drinks, bottled juices), in addition to freshly squeezed juices. There is also the option to create your own freshly squeezed juice (choose from orange, pineapple, apple, watermelon, beetroot, carrot, ginger), and also your own smoothie (choose from mango, passion fruit, berries, banana, and strawberry).

Their hot drinks menu is equally extensive, again covering all the basics, in addition to some pretty unique tea choices - if you're not feeling like the usual English Breakfast/Earl Grey/Chamomile (and so forth) options, choose from 'Serenity' (chamomile, hibiscus, rose petals, and citrus), 'Refresh' (peppermint, lemongrass, and Chinese green tea with ginger), 'Taiwan Dung Ti' (Taiwan's best-known Oolong tea), and 'Ginger Kiss Organic' (tummy soother, ginger, rosella, and lemongrass) just to name a few. There are also decaffeinated teas available, in addition to babyccinos with marshmallows for just $1.50 for the kids (or kids at heart).

How did you find the food at ?

Firstly, I was very impressed with the speed at which my order came - it felt like we'd only just ordered when our food arrived. In fact, the soy cappuccino that I ordered came before I had even decided what I was going to eat! I asked for my coffee to be placed in a takeaway cup rather than a mug, as I'm usually quite a slow drinker, but it was so good that I ended up finishing my coffee before we left - didn't need that takeaway cup after all!

I ended up getting the 'Not Too Big' Big Breakfast (which is essentially what I always order), which had eggs cooked my way (fried without the yolk - thanks for accommodating to my dietary needs!), bacon, baked tomato, sautéed mushrooms and chipolata sausages with toast (choose from sourdough, white, multigrain, gluten free, and rye bread). I was amazed by how big the plate was, especially considering it was called 'Not Too Big' - it did, however, lessen my guilt about consuming the whole plate by myself. It was too good to waste!

    Is dog friendly?

Yes, they sure are. Eddy was welcomed warmly by both staff and other patrons, one of which asked for a photo of Eddy, and another complimenting him on his bowtie (which cost only $5 from The Soapy Moose !) - seems like Eddy is very popular even when all the way in Canberra! also provided a bucket of water for Eddy, which was much appreciated - especially considering how hot it was on the day we visited.

Overall, what was your experience of ?

I was very happy with the:
  • Scrumptious food prepared fresh and cooked to order
  • Deliciously brewed coffee
  • Fast and impeccable service (towards both Eddy and I)
  • Convenient location
  • Friendly patrons
  • Quiet and relaxing ambience

  • I had nothing but a positive experience at , and Eddy and I very much enjoyed our morning in Canberra before hitting the road again. Thanks for having us, - we'll be back the next time we're in ACT!
