According to the Queen of Scones, this delicate, heavenly delight, which is a high tea favourite, got its start as a Scottish quick bread. Originally made with oats and griddle-baked, today's version is more often made with flour and baked in the oven.
As for the origin of the word "Skone", some say it comes from the Dutch word 'schoonbrot', which means beautiful bread, while others argue it comes from Stone of Destiny, where the Kings of Scotland were crowned.
The CWA is another legendary, community institution and favourite meeting place. The Qld CWA started in 1922, and has continued to provide a place where women can meet, make new friends, learn new skills and get involved in the community. With three regions, twenty divisions and over two hundred and forty branches, the QCWA is the largest and most widespread women's organisation in Queensland.
