It all started in 1810 in Munich, with the celebration of the marriage of the Crown Prince of Bavaria to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen, and has snowballed around the world with celebrations taking place in various countries.

Of course, I’m talking about Oktoberfest and from the United Kingdom and Europe to Hong Kong, India, Japan, North and South America, and Australia, it’s a celebration that has grown over time from the original 7-day marriage celebration in October to events lasting at least 16 days (starting in late September).

Over the years I have been to a number of these celebrations, including the one in Munich, and they are always a barrel of fun. Sydney is no stranger to these festivities that you’ll find in both the city and around various suburbs each year. Now the Bella Vista Hotel is getting onboard to host the Hills District’s first Oktoberfest event that will bring a load of food and fun for all ages.

Raise a stein to free entry, free ice cream for the kids all day, a kids zone with free craft activities, a jumping castle and more as you enjoy that beer and shout Prost (German for Cheers). Live music and entertainment from a 5-piece German band will lift your spirits further, whilst other uplifting fun will see you learning traditional German dancing.


There’s a competition or two as well where you can show off your skills in stein holding, yodelling and pretzel eating. These will certainly add to the atmosphere and let’s not forget some wonderful food to fill your stomachs with the likes of schnitzels and pork dishes, amongst other delights.


It’s a great afternoon out that will put a spark in your eyes and your step, but be sure to get in early and reserve your free spot here .
