Carlisle Castle Hotel
19 Albermarle St, Newtown

This is a cosy neighbourhood pub nestled in Newtown's backstreets. They have excellent nibbles platters and decently-priced beers with main dishes also receiving high praise. There is a nice outdoor area with a decent vibe but it's important to remember that as a kid-friendly pub, it gets busy - and noisier - around dinner, so show up earlier if you want to enjoy a more relaxed afternoon atmosphere before the dinner rush.

For those interested in the supernatural, suspicions have been raised as to whether the hotel is haunted after a series of odd occurences and this strange footage caught on the Carlisle Castle's CCTV cameras .

Salisbury Hotel
118 Percival Rd, Stanmore

The Salisbury Hotel is another family-friendly pub very popular with couples with young children in the Stanmore area. Not a great spot for singles, or couples without children wanting some quiet in the evenings. However, it is conveniently located next to the Stanmore Railway Station.They have a bistro, but it is good for simple fare like chips rather than meals.

Horse and Jockey Hotel
Parramatta Road, Homebush

[LINK=http://www.horseandjockeyhotel.com.au/]
The Horse and Jockey Hotel[/LINK] is another great spot to chill out in the afternoon sun. There are numerous outdoor tables with sunshades, and a view of the television on the wall, usually playing whatever game is on.

Located along the busy Parramatta road, they do have some limited parking at the rear. It's also is a good spot for lunch with daily lunch specials. There is Poker every Wednesday night with 10% off at the bistro for all poker players.

The Royal Hotel
156 Norton St, Leichhardt

At the Royal Hotel , the laid back old-style feel on the ground floor gives you the impression that it is just a regular local pub - and if that is what you are looking for, this will do the trick. There's good live music on the ground floor some nights and on Fridays and Saturdays the place stays open till 3 am or later.

However, if you are after exciting food and a little more style, head upstairs to the popular Royal Botanical Restaurant that serves a range of interesting dishes (including vegetarian options) and cocktails.

Club Burwood RSL
96 Shaftesbury Rd, Burwood

Club Burwood RSL is one of my favourite spots for a beer. For the best of this spot, head to the rear where you will come upon a delightfully landscaped outdoor area with a koi pond, back-lit fountain and an and attractive bridge feature.

If you are peckish, you can bring your food out into this attractively landscaped beer garden. Perfect in Summer or Spring, but still worth braving in the Winter.

Summer Hill Hotel
1 Lackey St, Summer Hill

The Summer Hill Hotel is wonderfully close to to the Summer Hill Railway station - so no problems getting home if you have one too many. Tastefully furnished outdoor area and friendly staff. It's great that they have mobility-impaired access here as well, something not all places have yet.

There's an outdoor pool table and musical trivia once a week. Really close to the Summer Hill shops if you fancy a feed, or else just dine at the bistro within the hotel.

Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club
20-26 Canterbury Rd, Hurlstone Park

Excellent spacious location with lots of different areas to have a beer indoors as well as in the semi-outdoor area. Lots of large flat screens around the place for watching the game. Slightly glitzy spot with a nice atmosphere.

Club Ashfield
1-11 Charlotte St, Ashfield
[LINK=http://www.clubashfield.com.au/]
Club Ashfield[/LINK] is my favorite spot in Ashfield for a drink, with it's chilled out outdoor area which also happens to be a decent place to watch a game. They have a barbeque in the outdoor area on Sundays, while Live music is played indoors on most Fridays and Saturdays.

There's a restaurant upstairs and beers are reasonably priced.

Wests Ashfield Leagues Club
Liverpool Road, Ashfield

A little more glitzy than most of the other club locations around the Inner West, but equally good for a quiet beer in a corner. Frequent themed Latin music nights mean a lot of people go here to dance - perfect if you want to work up a thirst. The Wests Ashfield Leagues Club is also home to some decent food options including a brasserie, Chinese restaurant and cafe. Plenty of parking available.

The White Cockatoo Hotel
30 Terminus St, Petersham

The White Cockatoo Hotel is located right next to the Petersham station, so easy to pop over there for a beer. Family-friendly pub that is good for a meal and a game of trivia once a week. Slightly cramped spaces but cosy on cold nights. Notorious (in a good way!) for the generous portion sizes at their bistro.
