What better combination is there than cold beers and spicy Asian food? If only there was a place where you could get flavours of Asia and beer tastings to match. Well, now you can! Dock 18 restaurant, at Four Points by Sheraton Docklands, has introduced a fun new dining concept, Beer Cha, which treats diners with a taste of Asia, paired with deliciously flavourful craft beers.
Book a table for two, for $37 per person and you will get two signature Beer Cha dishes: Vietnamese Chicken and spicy Asian Slaw salad with roasted sesame dressing, and two dishes of your choice from the 23-item menu to share accompanied with a 5-beer tasting flight each.
Created by Dock 18's multicultural culinary team and lead by Executive Chef Rhys Kelly, the Beer Cha menu short-lists 23 favourites from an initial selection of 60, boasting a range of flavours from all over Asia, including Indian Lamb Kathi Roll, Korean Chicken Wings, Japanese Lamb Ribs, and Peking Duck Rolls. Vegetarians can delight in Sweet Potato Rendang, Eggplant Gao Boa, Sichuan Tofu, and Corn Tom Kha. Other dietary requirements may be accommodated, just call and ask in advance.
The menu is meant for sharing and indeed you can choose more than two dishes and pay the additional cost ($7.80-$10.80 per dish). The food is delectable, with each item having its own unique flavour and fragrant aromas of spice. Undoubtedly, you will be pleased with any selection. Highly recommended, the Snapper Sourdough, Sansho Lamb Ribs, and Lamb Kathi Roll. Be sure to leave room for the innovative dessert creations: matcha tea infused brownie with black-sesame ice-cream and miso caramel, oolong-tea panna cotta with tapioca pearls and sesame brittle, and a five-spiced infused chocolate tart with vanilla ice-cream.
The 5-beer flight changes every few weeks and includes three craft beers from Asia and two from Dock 18's Best Brews program which showcases local, craft beer chosen on taste, popularity, quality and proximity to the property. The current Melbourne brew, a dry and fruity Mountain Goat Pale Ale from Richmond.
Dock 18 is a bistro-style restaurant, with relaxed friendly service, and accessible by a 20 minute walk from Southern Cross or Flagstaff Stations, or a few metres from The District tram stop (routes 35, 70 & 86). Beer Cha is available daily from 12:00-15:00 and 18:00-22:00, until September 30th 2019. Bookings are essential, with a minimum booking for two, and up to 20 people. Children are welcome and will be offered a non-alcoholic beverage choice.
